Which means that Soriano will be 40 (in Domican Republic years) and earning $18 million in the last year of his contract.

Just so you know, Alfonso Soriano -- emphasis on the "sore" -- will be 38 years old during his final Cubs season in 2014. That assumes he actually was born on Jan. 7, 1976, never a certainty in the Dominican Republic baseball carnivale. I'm not even sure the world will exist in its present form in 2014, but if it does, Soriano will be making $18 million that season, the last of his eight-year, $136 million contract.

soriano already got hit by age gate

Yeah, I believe it was that he was really 26 after the 2003 season when all the A-Rod crap was going down, as opposed to 24. It actually almost killed the entire A-Rod to Yankees deal.

you use the term "earning" very loosely.

Thanks, I just about choked on my sandwich.

I'm not sure I understand what's so funny. Can anybody explain to me?

Think of the words "Pujols" and "birth certificate" and then the likely age of the Egyptian hieroglyphics.

Yeah it could of been handled a better way. It was a total dick move by the ESPN guy.

I can sympathize with a 19 year old Tejada doing whatever he can to catch a break (and how pathetic is it that he had to lie about his age to convince somebody to sign him). But he's been misrepresenting his age to employers and potential employers for years, why is it wrong for ESPN to expose him?

Could the Cubs void his contract over this?

I doubt they have the authority to pull that off.

At first, I didn't agree. But now that I've seen it, it was handled pretty bush. They didn't just want to break the story, they wanted to get the big "gotcha" moment on camera.

Does that mean that on his work visa and all IRS documents he put the wrong age too? Isn't that perjury of some sort?

No it appears the only place that has the wrong date is the media guide.

"His green card, his driver's license, everything that he uses personally shows '74 as his date of birth. In the media guide, that type of information shows '76.

I dont know the background of how they set up the interview/meeting. But it appears he was brought under false pretenses to do the interview. I highly doubt they said 'hey i want to interview you about your age etc'. Why didnt they break the story, show the proof and then confront him, that seems more fair to me. I just didnt prefer the style they used to expose him.

I did laugh at the part when the showed him the birth cert and asked him if that was him. He paused and then said, probably.

How do you not notice that his year of birth is 2 years different on all the official documents? Granted it's not like Billy Beane and whoever's running Houston into the ground are personally checking the documents on every international they sign, but somebody, especially with that being a past issue, should have noticed it.

Nothing wrong with ESPN wanting to expose him ... but there is something wrong with the way they went about doing it.

Apparently his name is Tejeda and not Tejada too. The ESPN guy said that is what his birth certificate states and that it wasn't reported at the press conference.
