Matt Holliday

I thought about picking him but how much of his good hitting is a product of Coors. Just glancing at his stats he doesn't hit as well away from Coors. (I think what I saw was previous to last year though. I am not sure how well he hit last year on the road.

OMG, like how have you guys not figured this out yet!?! There's only one answer....he's won two World Series Titles, he won a World Series MVP, he's been robbed of about 5 regular season MVP awards.......DAVID ECKSTEIN!!!

bj upton. mostly personal preference, but he won't be a very big step down from any of the other names on this list.

and where is chase utley? you could also make an argument for josh hamilton, esp. if he's in CF.

It's hard to argue against Pujols, but Beltran gives you awesome production from CF, where the offensive bar is much lower than at 1B. Beltran also adds speed that you don't get from Pujols. I'd be real happy with either of these guys, but I'd give a slight edge to Beltran.

The only right answer is Albert Pujols. Seriously what are you guys thinking? Even with his injury risk.

He wouldn't be a horrible choice, but he's far from the only choice. If he played SS, 2B, or CF and was a couple years younger, then yeah. Guys like Hanley Ramirez and Sizemore are younger, cheaper, and play premium positions.

It's a two horse race between Miguel Cabrera and David Wright to me...

Oh, and in case people are forgetting...

Miguel Cabrera, born April 18th, 1983.

David Wright, born December 20th, 1982.

Cabrera has been around forever, but is still a week away from turning 25.

definately pujols. plus he is dirt cheap for a superstar.

If you had a MLB franchise and were given your choice of any player in the big leagues, who would it be? For the sake of this discussion, assume that you're the owner of a team with mid- to large-market payroll capabilities. Feel free to take into account salary, age, box office appeal, injury history, etc.

I thought of Utley, but after checking I didn't realize he turns 30 this year.

I know he's a man with no position, but I'm tempted to say Billy Butler.

Cubs of course, I would love to give Bartman a chance in Left-field. Let's just say, he would definitely make sure to catch those left field foul balls.

You are aware this is 2008, right?

He's 38 years old.

I don't see why you would pick Pujols, when you can pick a player who is dirt cheap, under team control for a long time at a price that is at least reasonable, plays a premium position and does not need surgery in the near future.

Just wondered. Considering your toothpick joke, Bartman joke, and Dusty Baker screen name - you seem to be firmly rooted in the past.

what about ryan howard? hes still super young. he has the power, the average, rbi's,etc. the only downfall is that he k's too much. hes a bigger guy but if you were in an AL team he could be DH and be great protection for other batters and a huge run producer. same with prince fielder but i cannot tolerate that guy.
