i wish they had kept track of inside the park homeruns back in the day. i'm curious how many of Babe Ruth's were just gappers that he ran for days on.

also, balls that bounced into the stands were ruled homers at one time (as opposed to ground rule doubles today)

That ballpark is freaking me out. Look at that outfield! And the foul territory goes on forever.

Seats behind home plate are actually not that good. It's a long, long way to home plate from back there. And it must have taken a short jog to get from dugout to the batter's box. Wild.

Those are some pretty sweet jackets. I don't think I've ever seen those before.

Why does a publication from 1907 have the 1908 World Series winner on it?

I'll be damned.

Good catch. And why does the graphic itself say it's the 1907 club, but champions for 1908?

Biff gave them the magazine from Back to the Future. Duh!!

The 1908 centerfield position reminds me a lot of our current one...

Perhaps its similar to how we refer to the previous years champion as the defending champion.

I love how a line of .276/.315/.382 translates to an OPS+ of 119.

hello Deadball Era

Maybe it should be renamed the "560-foot center field fence" era.

Awesome pics by the way. Where did you get them?

Probably library of congress? I know he's gotten old pics from there before.

I'd take the distance assuming no one invented safety-netting yet to protect from a straight-back foul ball.

As for the 1907/08 business, remember we did win 2 championships back-to-back, so the magazine cover is from the previous season, but it gives faces to go with names of 1908 (which I appreciate since I am using spring break to read Crazy 08)
