Not only does he take contact, he almost seems to seek it out, since his vision is not exactly a strength. If he gets outside, he's sneaky enough to make a guy miss, but in traffic, he's a bruiser.

Another thing, he looked much bigger to me outside of pads.

The Patriots have resigned Kelley Washington

The Jets have acquired Kris Jenkins from the Panthers for their 3rd and 5th round picks.

Dallas and Miami are in trade talks over Jason Ferguson.

All I'm saying is the evidence you presented did nothing to argue your case. And looking at highlights--which by definition are extraordinary plays--isn't the best way to evaluate a guy's skills, either. I barely saw the guy play, so I'm not going to pretend to know whether he can take a hit or not. But the scouting report evidence is pretty hefty in favor of him being a strong runner, even in the face of contact.

I never said once that he can't take a hit or that he is soft. I've seen him take some monster licks before, primarily on returns. My original statement was that he doesn't roll over people very often like a power back would do and isn't breaking ankles with any extraordinary juking ability. His speed is easily his principal asset. Watching him in college he reminded me a TON of Jerious Norwood.

Derek Anderson has signed his extension with the Browns.

Link.

Damn, damn, damn. I'd heard talk that he'd explore his options and I wanted him to leave like none other.

Here's to Anderson being Derek Anderson again next year and Quinn getting his shot.

Wow, 3rd and 5th rounders isn't a bad haul for Jenkins. He isn't really very good anymore.

I like what the Panthers are doing so far this offseason, I just hope they bring in some good FAs and a good draft to top it off.

That lound sound you will hear in 2008, will be Derek Anderson crashing back to earth.

this has to happen, doesn't it? i was waiting for it all last year. it's not like he was even a good quarterback in college. he was lousy. at oregon state, for God's sakes.

McFadden - 785 carries in 3 seasons.

Mendenhall - 388 in 3 seasons.

That is a lot less mileage. Mendenhall also had a better ypc.

tomlinson had about 1000 touches at tcu. thurman thomas had 900 carries at ok state. emmitt smith had 700 at florida. having a lot of college carries, i think, doesn't necessarily mean that one is going to have a shortened nfl career.

i think this calls for a poll!

i'd still draft him and start him when he faces the bengals.

3 hall of famers, who are probably the exceptions to the rule.

you really think most NFL HoF running backs are guys who were not workhorse RBs in college?

I'm saying your examples don't matter. For every hall of fame college running back who was a work horse in school, there are way more guys who burn out faster because of the wear and tear. Also, who is to say that your examples wouldn't have lasted another two or three years if they had Mendenhall's decreased work load in college?

What we know - carrying the ball more increases injury risk and fatigue. You can't look at other players to predict what will happen to someone. Way too many variables.

All you can do is say that at this stage in their careers, Mendenhall's body has much less wear and tear. It's possible McFadden will spend the next 12 years racking up 1500 yard seasons and dominating the NFL. Due to his playing history, however, he will end his career much earlier than he would have if he had Mendenhall's playing history (barring freak injuries).

If you are buying two cars of similar make, model and specs, the one with fewer miles should last longer.

Please note that I have not once said Mendenhall is the better player or prospect. I am just pointing out that it isn't as clear a slam dunk as it would seem.

NFL Network reporting that the Eagles are shopping Lito Sheppard.

yeah the philly papers reported this as well. with sheldon brown as the other corner, there's no need to keep lito around any more. he's a good player (2 pro bowls) but has some injury problems. given the demand for quality cb's in the league, i'd think he'll fetch a pretty good return.

Eagles would have been better served spending that money on a DE and keeping Lito. Of course, there is a decent class of DEs in the draft.
