I heard from SSM's sources yesterday about the Roberts/Bedard thing. There is a chance that the cubs will get both. Pie would be included and Hill would, too. That means that Marshall WOULD be staying and the cubs think he's ready to take a big step forward. But he'll still probably not start the year in the rotation, so, whatever. The holdup is that Hendry wants to secure another CF before making this trade so he's not handcuffed when he's only got SAM FULD as an option out there. There is a name being thrown about. The guy has played for the cubs and has recently been moved out of his CF position to make room for a new guy. We're talkin' about Private First Class Gee Mat Jew. The cubs like his glove, his switch-hitting, and his mostly solid approach at the plate. The Angels like DeRosa as a stopgap at third because they know Brandon Wood isn't ready. Hendry also wants them to take Dumpster or MarKey or throw in some cash for PFC's contract. If this looks like it's gonna go through, then expect Hendry to pull the trigger on the O's deal and the Angels deal. They have no idea how long this might take because they're in the early stages of talking to the Angels. If it doesn't happen within 2 weeks, though, then it's probably NOT going to happen. We've got more about it at SSM which also includes a roundtable discussion featuring Apex, 5laky, CT, me, and a special guest. Check it out if you get the chance.

Gee Mat Jew= Gary Mathews jr., if you're not thinking right.

By the way, make sure to read the article (same on as in Baseball Discussions) for some classic Hendry quotes including some naughty language.

So, would you be cool with:

Soriano

Roberts

Lee

Ramirez

Fukudome

Matthews Jr.

Soto

Theriot

Rotation:

Bedard

Zambrano

Lilly

Lieber

Marshall

With Dempster/or Marquis and Derosa off the books, if you're wondering about salary.

Sarge jr. can hit righties pretty well (.800 OPS) last year in addition to great D, so if you can find a platoon guy who can hit lefties (maybe get Payton in the Bedard/Roberts deal), production from CF would be sufficient.

Just passing it along

Yes, but according to this, they would be taking on Marquis or Dempsters contract, plus DeRosa's, which would offset it so that it is bearable. He even talked about them including cash.

$42MM more through 2011. I guess Hendry figures he won't be here then, so what does he care?

There was always talk about the Angles maybe trying to get out of his contract due to the steroids thing. If they want out, they will have to either take on salary or eat half of his contract.

I don't know the address and can't remember what SSM stands for (Desipio is down). I just remember reading about it on the message boards there.

So we're talking a package of Hill and Pie plus others for Roberts and Bedard.

Then Dempster/Marquis and DeRosa for Sarge Jr.

I don't dislike it. Just not sure I'm thrilled with it as I really like Hill and would love to see Pie get a chance for an extended amount of time (though that will probably never happen).

the part where the say hendry likes sean marshall kinda discredits the whole article.

but yeah, that whole thing sounds horrible.

Hendry was asked at the lunch-in about Marshall and replied "He's not going anywhere". That, combined with the reports that the players rumored in the Roberts trade was false, may give credit to that statement.

Then on the other side of the ledger you have Steve Trachsel.

Will Bedard make us that much better if we have to give up Hill?
