What is SSM?

It's a blog/web site started by a few of the guys from Desipio.

Whats it stand for/what is the web address?

Probably something ironically hip.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Ironicy Hip = Pathetically Desperate.

Kind of like thinking of your hand as a girlfriend.

I actually think desipio is pretty hilarious.

No problem. Just don't be offended when I don't shake your hand.

sorry for going off on a tangent but, where is Raisin?

I was wrong, and I should have known better than to root for anyone who attended USC.

I don't think this sounds horrible (at best, a wash, which probably means we should not do it), just very unrealistic. Far too many moving parts.

Bad News said:

Rich Hill is more like Al Leiter than Walter Johnson? What does that mean?

It looks like fun though. Let me try. Why does everyone want Erik Bedard? He's more like Donovan Osborne than Randy Johnson. And for that matter why does everyone want Brian Roberts? He's more like Ryan Freel than Rickey Henderson.

So trading for Ryan Freel and Donovan Osborne will bring the team the World Series. I think not!

Here's another left field comparison - trading for Bedard is like trading for Cliff Lee after 2005. Or Odalis

ontext. It means reading an entire paragraph to understand it as as whole to understand the individual statements, rather than pointing out the part that you personally dislike. The comparison of Rich hill to Al Lieter as opposed to Walter Johnson, arguably the best left hander to ever pitch a game, was in response to the "do not trade Rich Hill under any circumstances" argument. Essentially, all I'm saying is that Rich Hill should be available in trade talks because he is not a dominant lefty. Bedard has a better breaking ball, a much better fast ball, has faced better hitters with more success, and is younger. The fact that he may command more money in 2010 his free agent year is of no concern to me now if we can win now.

I can't really take a rumor serious if it refers to Dempster as "Dumpster". And this would be a horrible deal if it goes through.

Didnt Bill James have Rich Hill leading the 2007 NL in era and k's?

At any rate, Id trade Rich Hill any day for that line up and that pitching staff. I cant understand the "dont trade Hill under any circumstances" argument. If it makes us better why not? We develop pitching pretty well. Trading it for position players, which we dont develop, is what we are supposed to do get better.

Besides Hill is a lot closer to being Al Lieter than he is Walter Johnson.

yeah, and al leiter was still a very good pitcher.

trading hill is dumb because he's not paid very much and has never been much of an injury risk. if he were getting paid the same amount as bedard, then it's not a bad move, but bedard is probably looking at somewhere in the range of $18M total over the next two years, whereas rich hill will be about 20% of that number.

add in roberts, and you're tacking on about $13M in salary each of the next two years. Are Bedard and Roberts worth more than Hill, Pie, DeRosa (who would be replaced by Roberts) and $13M? i sure don't think so.

Don't forget the second deal of acquiring Gary Matthews Jr and the $42M he's getting over the next 4 years.

Since JeffH has already noted the flaw in your Walter Johnson comparison, I'll correct this one. Bedard is not younger than Hill; Bedard is one year, six days older.

Guys, again, the Angels and Cubs haven't had any discussions since the ARam deal fell through. The trade is not even being talked about. Nada.

Hill is a cheaper, younger Bedard. Trading him for Bedard is pointless.
