How many here remember the ORIGINAL cubs.com message boards before mlb.com took them over? Or, when you could listen to a game on wgnradio.com for free? Boy, my age is showing!

I used the site in the pre-mlb.com days, and listened to the radio broadcasts when they were first offered online for free, but never hit the boards.

How long ago were the pre-mlb.com days?

I vaguely remember cubs.com before the overhaul, don't think I went to the message boards. I think I had the same name on the mlb.com era Cubs board. Hmmm, I was probably briefly The Frontman.

I want to say mlb took control around 2000 or 2001. I believe your could listen to games for free online around 1996/97 timeframe, and that lasted a few years.

In about 5 mos, when I'm 22, it won't be cool to go to the bars on the MU campus anymore, so I'm livin this up!

I also won't be in college

Go back while you still have the chance! Don't follow the light!

My screen name on the old cubs.com site was 'agrotech', and that was during the 1998 season. I believe it was the '99 season that mlb.com took it over.

Could be. Although I believe it happened gradually, as far as how it affected the user. They used to all be independant and very different. The Cubs had one of the better sites, although I think Seattle and Boston were the leaders. I do not believe mlb.com banned the free radio right away either. They took their time to see what they had, and probably to draw in more customers, then laid down the hammer with the charge.

I know it was an mlb.com site in 2001. I did a web archive search a month or so ago and took a look at some of the articles back then. I believe the site that came up was from late September before they resumed.

I think it may have been the offseason between 2000 and 2001 when mlb.com took over. I visited the original cubs.com site occasionally but didn't post back then. I started posting on the cubs.com board during the offseason following the 2001 season (around the time Moises Alou signed as a free agent), and mlb.com had taken over by then.

Is "the light" referring to money? Because I'm sick of being poor, I'll follow that pretty much anywhere!

I think I was the only one who was never banned on the original cubs.com board.

I never got banned, remarkably.

Thanks for making the category 31-40 instead of 30-39, btw.

I don't like being grouped with 40 year olds. Most surveys I see give me the option for 25-35.

Gotta keep management happy, ya know! Plus, it bides me an extra year in this bracket! 8-)

Neither did I, but that's no surprise. 8-)

Man, I don't like being groupled together with the teenagers and young kids. When I turn 21, it will be a glorious day.

shoot a 21 yr old is still a kid *L*

Yeah, you're not a real adult until you're 22. However, next year the cut off will be 23. I imagine it will change every year until I'm in my 80's.

all you old men need to quit whining.

I could still beat you up.

that still doesn't change the fact that you'll die before me.
