Your linky no worky. Who did the Cardinals get?

Link works for me. Here's a quote:

Moving quickly to replace center fielder Mike Cameron, the Padres have agreed to a trade that will bring them center fielder Jim Edmonds, a 37-year-old who has won eight Gold Gloves.

The Cardinals are to get single-A third baseman David Freese, a minor leaguer. Cash will also be part of the deal, which could be made official as soon as Saturday. In talks last month, the Padres said they would be interested in Edmonds only if St. Louis helped to pay for his $8 million salary.

Is the prospect any good? I mean is a good single A guy?

Freese is good, he's always been old for the level he's played being a 5th year senior at USA. Reports have that he's made strides defensively to where he can stick at 3B and he could always hit the ball.

You could make a case for him being the Cards 3rd or 4th best pos. prospect, def. a top 10 in their system.

Lol Cards fans are mad at not getting much in return. Seriously what did they expect? Edmonds is past his prime, they should be happy with getting out from the whole 8 mil on his contract.

They're not getting out of the whole 8 mil. St. Louis is sending cash as part of the deal to pay for part of his contract.

Maybe I worded that wrong, but that is what i meant to say. The Cards should be happy they are getting out of having to pay the whole 8 mil.

But now who are we going to hate?

We've got some decent hate going with the Pads - I don't see it as a problem. We can still hate him as much just not as often.

Meh. We won the battle for Kosuke, so I don't really have too much to hate them for. Their fans probably have more reason to dislike the Cubs than we do to dislike the Padres. I guess Towers' involvement with Prior was kind of shady, but I'm really not sure what kind of impact that had on the outcome of the situation. Besides, I'm still grateful to them for knocking the Brewers out of the playoffs.

That said, my hatred for Edmonds will not change. :)

And as long as Tony LaRussa is the Cardinals manager, there will always be someone to hate.

I wonder if that sets up a deal between Dodgers and Cardinals to swap Juan Pierre for Scott Rolen. Both players have $36M left on their deals.

God I hope so....

The Cardinals will have no one worth a squat but Albert, Isringhausen, Ankiel, Wainwright and (if he returns healthy) Carpenter. Conversely, they'll feature Juan Pierre and Cesar Izturis in their lineup, are you kidding me? That's a last-place team, I think even the Pirates can match up with that.

Even more sobering for the slobbering horde: Albert gets more banged-up every year, Isringhausen is always two shakes away from the DL, there is no guarantee that Carpenter will be the same guy when he returns, and the league will be ready for Ankiel in Round Two. The potential exists for St Louis to be really REALLY bad in 08. =D>

The Cards don't like him because he doesn't fit Duncan's profile of pitchers he works with.

He fits Larry's profile pretty well, though.

Rumor has it, this probably makes Rasmus the starting CF.

Considering that even if he performs as well as he can, they wont be contending this year, this is great news. I love that they're starting the arbitration clock on him.

I know things can change, but as of right now the Cards starting OF is Duncan, HGH, and Ryan Ludwick, with an outside shot at Rasmus making the club from spring training. Their rotation is Adam Wainwright, Joel Pinerio, and a bunch of nobodys. Cardinals should be in full rebuilding mode.
