This stuff has been going on for long before the "steroid era". A friend of mine who grew up in the Bay Area was a clubhouse boy for the A's in the 70's, along with MC Hammer, said they were frequently sent on errands to pick up all sorts of illegal substances for players. In the 70's it was pot and hallucinigenics, the 80's was coke, and the 90's ushered in the steroid era. I gall's me that Selig and that butt boy Steve Philips can sit there and say they suspected that things were going on but had no idea how pervasive the problem is. What a joke!!! Edited by badgercub

It's not possible to get that big and maintain the size through a MLB schedule. It'd be one thing if a guy like Sosa was a bodybuilder for a living, but he's got to travel every few days, play a three hour game (plus practices, meetings, breaking down film, etc). For a guy like Sosa you have to add in all the PR stuff, appearances with sick kids, filming Pepsi commercials, etc. You can't lift in a gym 2 hours a day and still do all the above stuff without help.

Baloney. I work 10-11 hours a day at my desk with an additional 1 hour commute each day. I find time to go to the gym 3 times a week. It means I don't get home until after 9:30 PM those days, but I still do it.

How much bigger has your head size gotten? Did you suddenly develop adult acne?

I think it was on Mike & Mike that they were talking about the Steelers of the 70's doing some illegal drugs to make themselves better.

I can't stand Steve Philips. Maybe a poor choice of words, sorry if I offended anyone.

=D>

I'm not on the 'roids. I'm just pointing out what is pretty easily possible, based on my own experience. I keep records and spreadsheets of my progress in weight, body fat %, # of reps, weight lifted, and strength gain because I'm just that way. I like to be able to quantify things.

Love the forensic picture analysis and all, but yeah, a little light on the 'evidence' stuff.

Besides, who cares if Sammy took roids. It's neither here nor there. Except, here, in the steroids thread.

You're so vain.

I guess you think this song is about you. You're so vain.

I think it's going to be interesting to see how the HOF voters approach Clemens now since they basically excluded McGwire based on allegations.

I wonder if the market where Clemens played would help or hurt him too?

The big issue I am thinking about is if his son knew he was doing this. The family thing may far outweigh what voters think of him.

Clemens is in no matter what. Second ballot at worst. He was just too dominating and did too many things at HOF caliber to not include. McGwire just hit HR's.

How many Cy Youngs did he win after he was with the Jays though? If his career ended around then would he still be in? This is the argument regarding Bonds.

[Defamatory Statement]Pfffft, a ton of guys in the HOF cheated in one way or another as well.[/Defamatory Statement]

can players sue Mitchell for slander if they were named but didn't actually do anything wrong?

Slander is done orally so no. They would have a hard time proving Mitchell was libelous because, as far as i can tell, the majority of what he wrote were other people's statements made to him.

They can, but they have a very difficult burden of proof. B/c they are unquestionably public figures in the eyes of the law, they will have to prove that the statements about them were made with malicious intent, as well as knowledge of their falsity/reckless disregard of the truth. This is really hard to do, and believe me, Mitchell and DLA Piper (the law firm he worked with - one the biggest in the world) know it.

4, after leaving Boston. He would have been iffy had he retired after his Sox days, IMHO.
