Having Ozzie Smith in the Hall over Trammel is a freaking disgrace. Trammel was every bit as good as Ripken; probably better.

remember how we all agreed that alan trammell's 129.4 career warp3 was really good?

ozzie smith's career warp3: 139.1

ozzie's one of the rare players whose defense is so good it really does make up for his crappy to mediocre bat.

Well, that probably puts an end to that line of thinking....

I'm late to this topic.

All I've got to say is "lame".

Gonna have to be a little more specific than that. This thread has been all over the place.

I THINK he's saying non-tendering Prior was lame, but I'm not sure.

Interesting about WARP3, I came across this today from BP. It's the all-time leaderboard for the stat.

Barry Bonds 242

Babe Ruth 238

Hank Aaron 211

Willie Mays 207

Walter Johnson 203

Roger Clemens 202

Honus Wagner 201

Stan Musial 200

Ty Cobb 195

Cy Young 185

Eddie Collins 182

Cap Anson 180

Mel Ott 180

Rickey Henderson 179

Tris Speaker 177

Thanks for making my argument guys. Trammell is stuck with Barry Larkin in the great hitting SS at the wrong time of baseball's history category. Offense exploded when it was too late for these guys. Additionally their careers coincided with Ripken and Smith, and it's gonna add up to both of them getting screwed out of the HOF.

This is what frustrates me as far as the HoF voting process when some take advantage of their priviliage by not properly taking it seriously/making a mockery of the voting process.

Woody is losing his mind, as if it wasn't lost already. He totally doesn't seem to take his privilege very seriously.

Look at why he votes for Gossage, Mattingly, Murphy, Dawson, and Raines.

Don't forget he also said he is throwing a sympathy vote Concepcion's way.

Friends?

Should've been on the Rockies?

He might as well just put a bunch of names on a grid on a poster and had a chicken drop.

"Hmm...Luis Quinones? Good enough-I'm voting for him!"

Man it must be in the dead of the offseason because every thread in transactions lingers for weeks and the discussion is rarely on topic

I'd say most threads stray off topic in transactions, regardless of the season.

Mark Prior's agent said Sunday that both the Yankees and Mets are among teams that have expressed "preliminary interest" in his client.

As many as a dozen teams are said to be interested in Prior, who was non-tendered by the Cubs last week. "Next week will probably be pretty busy," agent John Boggs said. Prior could be ready to pitch in May and teams are no doubt looking at him as a high-risk, high-reward investment in an otherwise weak market for pitching.

I can see the Yanks paying a high price to nab him.

I get it, but check this out:

Ozzie Smith comparables:

Luis Aparicio (904) *

Rabbit Maranville (901) *

Omar Vizquel (901)

Nellie Fox (862) *

Bert Campaneris (859)

Willie Randolph (854)

Dave Concepcion (841)

Bobby Wallace (838) *

Red Schoendienst (827) *

Tommy Corcoran (821)

Trammel comparables:

Barry Larkin (921)

B.J. Surhoff (918)

Lou Whitaker (899)

Julio Franco (891)

Ryne Sandberg (890) *

Buddy Bell (889)

Jay Bell (881)

Ray Durham (877)

Tony Fernandez (875)

Derek Jeter (869)

And I take back the Ripken comparison. Trammel is a cut below Cal.

Similarity scores take primarily(I wanna say only?) hitting into account. Also, not really relevant, but there are 5 HOFs on Ozzie's list, but only 1 (2 with Jeter, should be at least 3 with Larkin, would have to review Whitaker again) on Tram's.

As much as I want to see Prior bounce back as a stater, the Yanks are probably the only team besides the White Sox and Cardinals that seeing him pitch for would be like a suckerpunch to my gut.

Personally I'll take any AL team, even the Yanks. At least then it isn't going to be in our face as often.

I loathe him going to another NL Central team and beating us up once a series.

With so many teams apparently showing interest in Prior, its really very irritating that Hendry was not able to deal him for even a low-level prospect. In typical Cubs fashion, this situation is almost guaranteed to result in him coming back and pitching ahead of schedule and with the same form he had in 2003.

I'll be ready to vomit when that happens too.

It's more likely that other teams knew the situation between Prior and the Cubs was going to result in him being non-tendered. Why buy the cow when you can get it for free after December 7?

Any team that traded for Prior would be faced with the same situation as the Cubs. Do you rehab him until, say, June, pay him no less than 80 percent of what he was making in 2007 and then take the chance of him walking after 2008?
