Can someone keep an ear on 670?

I'm not subjecting myself to the SCORE but I searched "Fukudome" on Google News and I'm refreshing the page every so often, so as soon as any news site posts anything - I'm on it. Unless I decide to do WORK or something. pfft.

Fuk it, I'm going to bed.

 !

Hey, Paul Sullivan just did a good job of summing up everything we've known for two days!

Sullivan's Article

Sullivan is an idiot but:

*Devil's advocate* He was probably told by his editor to write something on Fukudome and had nothing new, so he wrote on exactly what we've known. *Devil's advocate*

foo-koo-doe-may is technically the correct pronunciation of Fukudome's name, but Cub or not, I know no one here will follow that.

Can you say "Way around the word filter"?

I wonder how many 'inadvertent' c's will find their way into 'Fukudome'.

Love all of you guys, including your love, passion and obsessiveness to Cubs baseball. But this is ridiculous! The announcement will come when it comes!

I thought about that, too. It's a distinct possibility. Because of the timing of when the article came out it's probably just the article that will appear in the paper in the morning and the Trib didn't want to be the only paper without something about Fukudome in it. Still, though...I want new info :(

What if it doesn't? What if this all gets swept under the rug and we never find out?

I wonder if he'll get a Dice-K type nickname. Kus-K? Koos-K? Kews-K?

"Dice-K" isn't a nickname. That's how you pronounce Daisuke.

Kosuke is pronounced "KOHS-kay". Or, if you prefer, "KOH-skay".

It can be considered a nickname. That's all ESPN uses.

And speaking of ESPN, Stephan A. Smith is preaching... My ears are starting to bleed so I'm done.

Suntimes

The Cubs could find out as early as this morning that Japanese free agent Kosuke Fukudome will play in the United States in 2008, and a multiyear deal could follow within 24 hours if the team maintains its front-runner status in the four-team pursuit of the star outfielder.

Fukudome's U.S.-based agent, Joe Urbon, said Monday that he expected to hear from his client about his intentions to play in the major leagues late Monday night, but Urbon did not expect to contact any stateside suitors until this morning.

Such an announcement would come only after Fukudome spent face-to-face time with the three Japanese teams that had made offers early in the process. With a 15-hour time difference between Central and Japanese time, those meetings were to happen late Monday (Tuesday morning in Japan).

The Cubs had been in contact with Urbon on Monday but had not been told as of Monday night about a decision by Fukudome, despite numerous reports on both sides of the Pacific that a decision had been made.

''Once he makes the decision, he has -- but for maybe some final points -- offers from clubs that we can then talk about,'' Urbon said. ''And then he'll take a reasonable amount of time and maybe ask some reasonable questions. Assuming he's coming, that might take another day.''

Fukudome is expected to sign with a team relatively quickly. The Padres, Cubs and White Sox are known to be in the running.
