Agent Joe Urbon said Kosuke Fukudome's official decision on whether to play in the U.S. would come late Monday night U.S. time.

 

All indications are that Fukudome will play in the U.S., but it looks like he wants to hold a news conference in Japan to officially announce his decision. He probably won't announce right away whether he's signing with the Padres, Cubs or another team.

Fukudome is coming to America - yet to decide what team he will join.

San Diego Union Trib has this update:

 

Fukudome update

 

Padres General Manager Kevin Towers said he is putting all other moves on hold until he finds out whether Japanese outfielder Kosuke Fukudome is coming to the Padres or not. He said that he believes Fukudome has yet to decide if he will leave Japan, but if he decides to come to the United States, he will chose an American club "rather quickly." Towers said he believes the Cubs and White Sox are the other American clubs bidding for the right-fielder/center fielder.

 

Asked what he thinks the Padres' chances are of getting Fukudome, Towers said: "I'd be shooting in the dark. I have no idea. I really don't. The agent's kept this pretty close to the vest."
