Here's a link to his MILB page. His numbers were pretty decent in AA. He gave up 18 walks and 68 hits in 78 innings on the way to a 2.54 ERA.

On the other hand, it is the Braves here. When was the last time anyone got a good prospect out of them? Anyone remember Andy Pratt?

Jason Schmidt, I guess... Can't think of anyone else...

Different GM now, though.

Still from the same organization, though. And, I imagine that Wren listened quite a bit to Schuerholz's philosophies. Nor is Schuerholz gone for good; he's the team president.

shhh...let me hope.

Honestly, I think it was more about clearing salary and space than about Ascanio. Though he looks decent - if he can repeat his 2007 minor league numbers. He'll be our 8th righty out of the pen, though.

any confirmation?

I heard it on ESPN 1000 as well. Ohman and Infante gone.

Nice, Thanks. :D I don't think Ohman had any future with the Cubs after what happened last year.

I'm totally fine with the deal, actually, provided the Cubs aren't sending cash to Atlanta, as well.

I think Ohman will have a pretty good year in the Atl pen. I'd put the over/under at a 3.5 ERA. Nothing that will change the direction of the tide, but he's not as bad as people think, either.

So...

Jacque + Part of his salary + Ohman = minor league middle reliever.

That's gotta be a blow to the pride.

Leave it to Hendry to produce such a huge haul........

Oh, wait... ](*,)

I always liked Ohman, but it was pretty clear he was on the outs. To clear he and Infante is a win for me. Every extra million in budget space helps.

At last there is room on the bench for that elusive middle infielder.

No Ascanio in this year's BA Handbook. Anyone have anything about his stuff? A BA search shows that he was listed as one of the best fastballs in AA last year.

He has a really good arm. A lot of upside, but still it's just as a reliever. Believe fastball/slider type. Typical Hendry acquisition. Strong arm, control needs work. Secondary pitches need work.

Like most relievers, it looked like a couple bad outings shaped Ascanio's MLB numbers last year, especially since he only threw 16 IP.

2 awful outings: 1.2 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 0 K, 1 HR

11 other outings: 14.1 IP, 4 ER, 11 H, 4 BB, 13 K, 2 HR (for rate fans: 2.51 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 3.25 K/BB, 8.2 K/9)

Confirmed on Rotoworld as well:

ESPN Radio 1000 reports that the Cubs have traded Omar Infante and Will Ohman to the Braves for Jose Ascanio.

The Cubs traded for Infante last month, but both he and Ohman were somewhat redundant on the roster and figure to cost a combined $3.5 million or so for 2008. A 22-year-old reliever, Ascanio had a 2.54 ERA and 71/18 K/BB ratio in 78 innings at Double-A in 2007 before a 13-game stint with the Braves to end the season.

Can never have too many arms...

Righties

Dempster (?)

Wood

Marmol

Howry

Wuertz

Petrick

Hart

Ascanio

Mateo

Lefties:

Eyre

Cotts

Pignaiello

Marshall (?)

I hope they put an extra bench in the bullpen area when they reworked the field.

It's been fashionable to consider Neal Cotts a definite non-tender, but, given the market for pitching, I won't be surprised if the Cubs offer him a contract.
