Ascanio’s numbers in Mississippi were outstanding: 2.54 ERA in 44 games, 66 hits in 78 innings, 18 walks, and 71 strikeouts. Ascanio throws gas, and he’s a legit candidate to get some time in the Atlanta bullpen sometime during the season.

Well, he repeated AA last year, throwing 78 innings over 44 games with a 2.54 ERA, 71/18 K/BB, 1.08 WHIP, and just 1 HR allowed. He has a career minor league ERA of 3.58 in 259.2 IP, 224/84 K/BB, 1.29 WHIP, and a 0.49 HR/9 ratio.

 

He'll be 23 next season. I guess we'll see if his 2007 minor league numbers were a fluke.

I think Hendry undersold on Jones. He ought to have waited until the market settled a bit to move him. One of the teams that lost out on free agent market would have been interested. At his price, he had a greater value than Infante.
