I think it's dumb to just non-tender him. If he's gone, at least try and get something for him, even if his value is low.

Hendry said he tried to gauge interest at the winter meetings in a Prior trade and there was none.

I thought the Rangers and Padres had/have interest?

Reds did, although I think we've "shown interest" in everyone.

No way Hendry trades him within the division and risk having him pitch well against us.

Or let him hit the free agent market and get nothing in return, while still going to a divisonal team.

I think the odds are like 2-1 if he hits the open market he ends up in Cincy.

Touche. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Few more hours...

Pitching for RumDum? Uh, no.

I really don't think Prior will end up with the Reds.

In reality, where he ends up could be a wide open field.

There's a couple of things to think about. He's refused the Cubs 2 yr offer because either he wants out of Chicago or he doesn't want to give up years of free agency.

If he just wanted out of Chicago, all bets are off on the type of contract he'll be looking for. If it's the latter, then he'll take the best one year deal he can get. Of course, a wild card could be if a team were willing to risk a 3-4 year deal at decent money around 6-8 million per season.

I think the Padres are the most likely team to get him. They would likely be willing to risk the one year deal considering they would be the front runner to sign him after he rehabs. Furthermore, Prior might be willing to take less to rehab with them as he would be close to home.

As far as a team throwing a crazy multi-year deal at him, look at teams desperate for pitching who would have to risk the dollars to get a pitcher of his caliber. He would become a high-risk, high reward type move. Teams like that could possibly be the Royals, Rangers, Orioles, and Astros. The Reds could be in this group as well.

If he's really supposed to back by may, you roll the dice on him one last time, even if he'll accept only a 1 yr deal.

Worst case, he doesn't pitch and rehabs on our dime. We've done that with worse players.

Best case, he comes back, he pitches great, and we ride him to the post-season. If we lose him after the season, it's still money well-spent. And we'd still have the opportunity to trade him mid-season if things aren't going well for the club.

The only thing that doesn't make sense, IMO, is letting him walk away without getting anything.

Why would he? Dusty the idiot that screwed him up in the first place.

If he goes anywhere, it will be San Diego.

San Diego played this very same game with Marcus Giles last year. They made offers to Atlanta that Atlanta wasn't the slightest bit interested in, then waited until Atlanta non tendered him and picked him up on the cheap. Meanwhile, they kicked Todd Walker to the curb after losing an arby case with him.

I highly doubt this. If he leaves he will goto the West Coast.

if mark prior goes on the market, s.d. will not get him for cheap. there's too much potential there for other teams to not get involved and drive up his price at least a little bit.

I'll take that bet.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that he didn't say that.

He's not a relief pitcher. You guys know that, right?

(Somebody had to say it...)

I am NOT changing my name. Nor am I going to stop wearing my Prior jersey (the only actual jersey I own). I'll miss you, Mark, although I can't blame you if you want to get away from this organization.

Should I change my name or keep it as an oxymoron?

Oh, you should keep it, no question. Us Prior holdouts will be the staunch last line of defense (against what . . . reality sinking in, I guess?). Solidarity, brother!
