What's interesting about this deal is that the Bulls now have 4 players from the 2006 DRAFT.

Thomas---4th pick. Thabo---13th pick. Simmons---15th pick. Brown---25th pick.

What this does tell me is that the Bulls now have:

Hinrich/Hughes/Thabo/Gordon/Duhon/Brown in the backcourt. Hughes won't be bought out....Which means, I suspect Gordon and Duhon won't be back with the Bulls in 2008-09 season. Which would leave the Bulls with Hinrich/Hughes/Thabo/Brown backcourt. Considering there isn't a guy under 6'3 in that backcourt, I say, Paxson has upgrade the position. Now you pick up Gooden/Simmons to go with Noah/Gray/Thomas and you have a depth of nice young, yet underdeveloped big men. Which means, you could see Paxson moving Simmons and/or Thomas in the offseason, for a more experience big man.

I like this move by Paxson. Paxson recognize he needed Wallace out of Chicago, and he got two serviceable players (Gooden/Hughes) and two potential solid pieces who are sitll on their rookie contracts (Brown/Simmons). I hate to see Smith go, but getting some nice, decent young players in return for two players who isn't a part of the future, is definately a good move.

I like the move solely because it rids us of an absolutely horrible basketball player in Wallace, and frees up his salary to be able to look to the future.

I'm not really sure about the rest, and I don't think anyone else can be either. To me this is all about cutting loose the ball and chain known as "Big Ben." And for that, I am happy. Enjoy watching him suck for you, Cleveland.

Aquiring Wallace was a terrible move by Cleveland. They now have the worst offensive player in the NBA. Expect even more double teams for Lebron.

Thus leaving Wally open for jump shots.

I'm sure Cleveland is thinking the same thing to Chicago fans about Hughes :D

Really, though. It's two terrible contracts being swapped. It doesn't save the Bulls any money. This is a pure change of scenery move to get Wallace out of the clubhouse. On that level, it works. Hopefully Hughes doesn't become that same type of cancer in the next year.

They won't be leaving Wally, they will be leaving Wallace, who can't even dunk under the basket with no defenders around him. And no, that isn't hyperbole.

The difference between Wallance and Hughes is that Hughes can actually be a capable NBA player now and then, can't say the same for Ben

I think you'll be surprised what Wallace can magically do when he gets to a contender.

I am really hoping Hughes comes in and plays with a chip on his shoulder, knowing he was miscast, misused by Cleveland. We know Hughes can be a solid 15-20 ppg player. Is that worth the contract he got from Cleveland? No, but he does bring some scoring ability with him, something that can't be said about Wallace. Not to mention, the Bulls have 2 other players who could do what Wallace does best, and they are Noah and Thomas.

IDK how the season will play out, but I am glad the Bulls no longer start off with a 4 .v. 5 disadvantage offensively.

Hinrich/Hughes/Deng/Gooden/Noah

Duhon/Gordon/Thabo/Noce/Gray

Those are solid lines. I know there isn't a SUPERSTAR in this mix, but the Bulls play better when there isn't a "superstar" on the roster. And hopefully this Ben Wallace trade sparks them to a darn good finished.

when is the next national Bulls telecast?

Sunday night vs. Houston on ESPN and then March 2nd at Cleveland on ABC.

i'm going to go ahead and predict that hughes pulls a tim thomas/john starks. i have no idea why he would, but it just feels weird.

I have a feeling he is going to want to show what Cleveland gave up when they moved him. I think Hughes is going to be a really good player for the Bulls, I really do.

the bulls were a contender last year oin the east and he still sucked. he's old and bad and he was redundant. noah will be able to do more, he's cheaper, younger, and taller.

we should have just kept chandler in the first place, but whatever. joe smith is a loss, though. the man is a professional, he's the one who'll be very valuable on a contender.

i hope so, he's definitely talented.

i feel bad for the development of thabo, though.

he really isn't a bad guy, I read this

On May 2, 2006 Hughes was recipient of the inaugural Austin Carr Good Guy Award, designed to recognize the Cavaliers player who is cooperative and understanding of the media, the community and the public.

Basically this trade boils down to Hughes for Wallace. Joe Smith for Gooden is a wash, Simmons and Brown will probably be non factors buried on the bench.

I just wish we could get Duhon off this team. He has no business here.

No doubt, but I don't think he's *this* bad.

And I agree on keeping Chandler. Hell, should have just kept Brand.

but like another poster said, on offense, he doesn't need to be guarded, so lebron may suffer. although i'm sure he'll play better with the cavs and it's probably a good fit.

If they were, they're not now. It'll only be on WGN, but not the Superstation.

Chicago and Cleveland signed individual players to long-term contracts that over paid each. Realizing their mistake, they trade one for the other (Hughes for Wallace). Weird.

Anyone else upset that the Bulls gave up Joe Smith? He's played relatively well and had a good contract through next year.

The way I look at it, giving up Joe Smith was the price the Bulls had to pay for getting a team to even consider taking mega-garbage like Wallace.

It's unfortunate, but ultimately Smith wasn't going to be part of our future, he was signed on as a veteran transitional player and turned out to be a very pleasant suprise. If there's one player the Cavs should feel good about in this trade, it's Joe Smith.

Hughes has actual talent, Wallace doesn't. That's really the difference for me. If Hughes isn't the greatest locker room presence, that will be wash for the Bulls because Wallace was a total dud in terms of veteran leadership and being a player that others could look up to. By the time this deal went down, every signal I heard said the entire team didn't even want him around anymore. He's figuratively stealing money. And that's not exaggeration.

As for Chandler......why do you people have to ruin my evening?
