I wouldn't be suprised if the Bulls simply try and buy out Hughes.

He is at 12 million this year.

only one more year left. But actually, having is expiring next year might come in handy.

And Wallace had 2 years left after this one? If that's the case, then this trade is even better than I originally thought.

I messed up...Gooden's expires next year....Hughes in 2 years..ughhhhh..maybe we can pawn Hughes off on Isiah.

Wallace was due 14,000,000 through 2010

Hughes is due 13,655,268 through 2010

That's per year.

Noah in theory could put up what Chandler is doing right now. Do we know yet? No. But getting rid of Wallace allows the Bulls to see what they have in Noah, so yes, this is a good move. I really is that simple.

i'm all for getting rid of Wallace.

and stating that his PER once lead rookies...c'mon. it may have been true, but you'd really rather have Noah than Kevin Durant?

who said that? it was in response to "noah is garbage," not to make the point that noah is the best rookie in the league.

Well in that case, a buyout isn't really a possibility, correct? They probably want to hold on to Hughes, though, so they have a big guard. Gordon or Hinrich have to be gone now. Not nearly enough PT for Gordon, Hinrich, Thabo, Hughes, and Brown next year. Any way we could work out a sign and trade for Brand involving Hinrich or Gordon?

No they won't buyout Hughes. He will actually be very valuable during the 2009-10 season because of his expiring contract and that years FA class.

I really hate trade-salary rules in the NBA, they are so stupid.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Is that going to be the offseason of Lebron?

yes. and Bosh, and Wade, I believe.

Oh, way to endear yourself, Wallace. Noah was right.

Seriously if you read hes quotes they are laughable. Making tons of excuses about injuries, and how he plays hard every night. Well Ben, you guys were sucking when everybody was healthy, and I think we need to ask Skiles about you playing hard every night.

He was terrible, but at the same time the Bulls were very strange with him. Getting on him over a headband. We should all just be happy he is gone, Ben included.

While the rule about headbands was dumb, it was still a rule, and everybody on the team should follow them.

I guess, but if the Bulls had drafted LeBron I wonder if they would have taken the same stance with him? Wallace was paid like a superstar, then treated like a rookie. I can see why he was peeved at the Bulls too.

Meh, if not getting to wear a headband while getting paid a crapload of money pisses him off, well I dont know what to say. Hes a baby, and a coach killer. I wonder how long Clevelands coach will be around now that Wallace is there?

The sad thing is he went from being very underrated to very overrated the minute he signed the Bulls deal. For years he was all effort. Then he got paid.

He was made by Sheed.

If I recall he was a decent player in Washington, obviously Sheed made him better. Sheed is a great player. I think a lot of people don't realize just how talented Rasheed Wallace really is. The left handed three in the All-Star game is pretty impressive.

It makes me laugh when people say the Pistons win without a great big man. He may not be Shaq in his prime or Tim Duncan, but Rasheed Wallace has been one of the most talented PF's in the league since he stepped foot on the court. The guy is a great player, even if he doesn't score a ton.

Nice job here by Pax. He made a mistake with Wallace and turned it into something that should help the team in general. Hughes can handle the ball and defend big guards, plus he can create his own shot. Gooden can score with his back to the basket.

We need to resolve the Gordon-Deng-Hinrich-Hughes-Sefolosha-Noc logjam this offseason. I'd trade Gordon and Hinrich, but that won't happen. I think its more likely that Gordon and Hughes will be gone. Need to also decide if Tyrus is going to be allowed to get minutes. If not, might as well deal him while he has value.

What's interesting about this deal is that the Bulls now have 4 players from the 2006 DRAFT.

Thomas---4th pick. Thabo---13th pick. Simmons---15th pick. Brown---25th pick.

What this does tell me is that the Bulls now have:

Hinrich/Hughes/Thabo/Gordon/Duhon/Brown in the backcourt. Hughes won't be bought out....Which means, I suspect Gordon and Duhon won't be back with the Bulls in 2008-09 season. Which would leave the Bulls with Hinrich/Hughes/Thabo/Brown backcourt. Considering there isn't a guy under 6'3 in that backcourt, I say, Paxson has upgrade the position. Now you pick up Gooden/Simmons to go with Noah/Gray/Thomas and you have a depth of nice young, yet underdeveloped big men. Which means, you could see Paxson moving Simmons and/or Thomas in the offseason, for a more experience big man.

I like this move by Paxson. Paxson recognize he needed Wallace out of Chicago, and he got two serviceable players (Gooden/Hughes) and two potential solid pieces who are sitll on their rookie contracts (Brown/Simmons). I hate to see Smith go, but getting some nice, decent young players in return for two players who isn't a part of the future, is definately a good move.

Bulls should have alot of $$$ free for the 2010 season as well. That is what the focus needs to be, Summer 2010.

yeah but everyone assumes that some of those guys are going to be moving elsewhere. it's very possible that they all stay in the place they were drafted, then you're up crap creek without a paddle because you've shed a lot of salary and there's nobody out there to sign.

Yeah, well the Bulls know nothing about this strategy ever failing.

Yeah, the plan of "save as much money for the big free agent year, and then land a Tracy McGrady" worked marvelously back in...what was it, 2001?

Well, in theory you should be in the lottery under that plan. I'd rather be really bad than medicore in the NBA.

Yep and at one time he was ranked behind Rashard Griffith of Chicago King. Rasheed Wallace is a great, great player. He should have won a title at Portland too.

Well too many of the stars didn't like the no headband and cornrow rule. But in all seriousness a lot of players were less than thrilled at the idea of playing for Krause after his whole Teams, not players win titles.

That was awful. Anyways I think Wade comes to the Bulls. The Heat I doubt will be good anytime soon, although maybe they will. I think by then Wade will want to come back home.

So for my Cavs, it's out with

Gooden

Hughes

Marshall

Newble

Simmons

and in with

Wallace

Szczerbiak

Smith

West

2nd rounder

Well, aside from Gooden v. Wallace, that looks like an improvement on all fronts. West and Wally will go a long way in helping out until Pavlovic and Gibson get healthy, and Wallace will be a really expensive Varejao while he gets healthy. And that means once everyone's healthy, there's Ilgauskas, Wallace, Varejao, Smith in the frontcourt, James, Pavlovic, Wally as wings, and West, Gibson, and Damon Jones/Eric Snow as guards. Could be worse, especially since LBJ handles the ball/triggers the offense so much.
