Bold statement of the day: Amare as a PF may be the best player in the league.

Good Lord, Chris Paul. Almost a points/assists/steals triple double tonight.

that is a bold statement as he can barely create his own shot, dependent on an all-star distributor to get him the ball in the paint. but he's a fantastic finisher.

Playing with Nash makes him better, no doubt. But if you don't think he would be a very good player on any team I think you are crazy.

Good thing he didn't say that he wasn't a very good player. He just said he isn't the best player.

Not an earth-shattering statement.

Acutally what you quoted is saying more than that. A guy who can barely create his own shot and is dependant on someone else to get him the ball in the paint would usually imply that the player isn't very good. Most good players can create their own shots.

Well Amare can create his own shot off of rebounds and post-moves. He can't off the dribble, but most bigs can't. He's good, not great.

I agree he is a good player. I do think he will get the chance to create more now off of the dribble. I think he will be able to some.

..."good" has to cover an awful lot of ground if Amare is just "good." He's 3rd in the league in PER, first in PER48.

but that's quite obviously aided by Nash making the game easier for him. Compare that to Howard who has to work his way into position on the low post and create his own shots much more often without an elite distributor. Amare's an outstanding player but not the best at his position.

How many assists do you think Amare gets per game from Nash? It certainly helps, but not as much as you're suggesting. And I'm specifically talking about him at PF, where he'll be out in the open court much more, and will be banging against slower, less athletic players. Also, Amare can hit free throws.

i guess its a 10 player deal now Sonics/Bulls/Cavs...still being finalized...thats the latest rumors.

I love moving Wallace, but hate adding Gooden. Didn't he just sign a big deal?

Its over after next season.

Ok, that isn't as bad then. So what does that mean with reguards to the Bulls backcourt? Is this deal setting up another one? I would think one of Hinrich of Gordon would be on the way out now.

Duhon would be shipped out. If we trade Gordon, I'm going to hurl.

Yeah but didn't they run in to problems in the past with Gordon coming off of the bench? I would assume Hughs starts. Hinrich just got a big deal not too long ago so he is going to start. Where does that leave Ben?

Rumored deal has us getting BOTH Gooden and Hughes, as well as Cedric Simmons.

Wow, this would be absolutely amazing.

larry hughes is shooting about 38% from the field this year

I'm not a big Hughes fan, but he has been playing well lately (and actually shooting above 40% from the field).

I think the most important thing to come out of this is that we would no longer have Ben Wallace.

per David Aldridge:

As the Akron Beacon-Journal first hinted at this a.m., and that the Four-Letter advanced, the Cavs, Bulls and Sonics have pulled the trigger on that big ol' three-way:

Larry Hughes and Drew Gooden to Chicago,

Ben Wallace and Joe Smith to Cleveland.

The Cavs' Ira Newble, Donyell Marshall and Adrian Griffin to Seattle for Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West.

It's the very last name that makes me like this deal a little more for Cleveland. West can be a terrific guard for them playing off of LeBron and can knock down the open jumper. He also gives them size in the backcourt. Wally World is going to shoot 53, 54 percent from the floor until he dies, and certainly will spread the floor and give LBJ more driving room.

Ben is Ben. He's still a good rebounder. But he's not the man-on-man defender that he used to be, and he's a liability on offense. Maybe the Cavs go small at the ends of games. At the least, LBJ is surrounded by more veteran guys who've gone deep into the playoffs.

Chicago blows up a team that wasn't working, and gives Joakim Noah all the minutes he wants in the middle. Hughes can score, allowing Ben Gordon to come off the bench. Seattle continues to amass expiring contracts.

I am sad to see Joe Smith go. I know it is for the bigger good of the team, but I actually thought he did pretty well for this team.

Agreed. But Joe had th expectations of coming to an up-and-coming young team, ready to take off, and he wanted to be a part of them. Joe Smith was clearly NOT the problem, but at least John MACBETH Paxson (yes, John's REAL middle name) is giving Smith an opportunity to play for a good team.

i can't wait to hear GoCubsGo's spin on how this makes Paxson a lousy GM

How does this make Paxon any better as a GM? All he is doing is trading trash for trash. Trash that he signed. As I said the only positive is that Noah, and TT should get more playing time.

Drew Gooden really isn't trash.

Isn't he going to take minutes away from the two young guys though? At least he still doesn't have that patch of hair on the back of his head.
