Has anyone read through the first few pages of this thread to see how close/off some of the fan predictions were for their teams?

Me and Cubbies75 concentrated on how our basketball team is littered with idiots. Score one for us.

My favorite was SSR picking Chester Frazier 3rd Team All-Big 10.

Brian Carlwell has left the Illinois team, will transfer after spring semester. Sad ending to his Illinois career. He's still got a ton of potential, I hope he can still live up to it.

What happened there? Any reasons?

not enough schollies to go around if he redshirts. this is actually what's best for both parties.

good luck to him.

INDIANA! 3rd in BigTen last year. Eliminated in 2nd round of NCAAs against the eventual Final 4 UCLA Bruins. This year, return 5 players who started games from last year's team. DJ White a year further removed from 2 broken feet. Bring in a top 3 recruit in the nation. Bring in a top 3 JUCO transfer. 2 potential 1st team All-Americans. Top 10 team in the country. Picked to finish 2nd the BigTen. One of the easier schedules in recent school history. Potential Final 4 team if it all comes together quickly, especially on the defensive end.

Well, AJ Ratliff didn't really contribute much this year. But the bold is still a decent possibility. I'd rather the italics ring true.

I wish I would've posted earlier in this thread. I would've looked pretty smart. Partly because IU's season -- on the court, that is -- has gone pretty much according to plan. I was thinking 25-6 or 26-5 and a share of the Big Ten. The former especially seems likely. I thought Eli Holman would contribute; he hasn't. Thought the team would be good defensively on the perimeter; the nascent defensive improvements have come from playing zone because of failings in stopping dribble-penetration. Also thought, at least, Sampson wouldn't get in trouble for phone calls again.

I think I did call Oregon, USC and K-State (wrong there) overrated and Stanford and Mississippi State underrated at some point.

Time now to put down my horn I was tooting.

Keep fighting the good fight on K-State. They're the team getting knocked off by a 12 seed for sure.

I had them pegged as an 8/9 game participant. I thought they'd drop more games to bad teams. It's pretty clear they'll be better than that; however, I agree, they're definitely an upset possibility.

I am withholding on saying it is best for both parties. Let's see what the Carlwell's have to say after he leaves campus. They could really crush Weber if they decide to start bitching about the Jamar Smith incident.

KU

Returns everyone except for lottery pick Julian Wright.

Keys to success:

Darrell Arthur and Sherron Collins need to make the "sophomore leap."

Brandon Rush's recovery from knee surgery.

Will Freshman C Cole Aldrich contribute?

Should be preseason top 5, possibly as high as #2. A final four and championship are possible. Should win the Big XII.

I didn't speculate much, so I really can't say I was right or wrong. Should tie with Texas for reg season Big XII champs. (No tie-breakers in our conference). Will probably win the conference tourney, though Texas and KSU remain threats there, too. Not sure what to think of aTm. I suppose we could choke there and give away the conference.

I was hoping Releford or Marcus Morris would sneak on that list. By all accounts, Morris in particular is blowing up this year. Some people still question how good Releford is, so maybe his absence isn't a surprise? illiniguy, you've seen him play, right? Thoughts?

I don't think in high school he is close to the player that Tyrell Reed was. I also think he has a lot of projection as a player. He is a great defender, who will play right away because of it. He will have to catch up on offense I think.

I remember you saying that before. I though Releford was a scorer. Not true?

Do you think Reed is quick enough to be a good defender? I think he had 3 fouls in like 9 minutes the other day.

He is a scorer in high school games in Kansas. When he has played on the AAU circuit with Pump and Run he was the third option. Now grant it that was before his junior year. I really was not as blown away as I thought I would be by him. But, I still think he will be a good player for you. It just might take a while.

As for Reed, that is the million dollar question. There is no doubt he can shoot it. I think he is athletic enough to make the adjustments necessary to play. I just wonder how hard Bill recruits over the top of him.

That's basically the equivalent of the CPL or Rucker Park, right?

Self will show no hesitation to recruit over him if he sees a guy who he thinks is better. We're allegedly in the mix for the 2, 3, 5, & 7 PGs in '09, though I don't know how interested they are.

Most recent bracketology is interesting. IU as a 5-seed with a nostalgic first round matchup vs. the Cuse which would be a tough matchup. 2nd round date would matchup the top 2 freshmen in Gordon and #4 seed, K-State's Beasley.

I'm confused. You said top two freshman, but it's not Arizona vs K State.

UCLA will lose like 2 games all (regular) season.

I wish SSR was right.

I didn't make any real predictions though I said I'd be disappointed if UCLA didn't make the Final Four.

Bayless is so unloved.

I do like Bayless, but he's no Eric Gordon.

Gordon- 21.7 points, 3.2 boards, 2.5 assists, 3.4 turnovers. 46% FG, 86% FT, 40% 3FG. 57% effective field goal.

Bayless- 21.1 points, 2.8 boards, 4.4 assists, 3.0 turnovers. 49% FG, 85% FT, 45% 3FG. 58.1% effective field goal.

Gordon may be better defensively but Bayless has been the better offensive player.

Another solid W for SIU tonight as we win 67-47 over Northern Iowa. 3 wins in a row and 7 of the last 10. It appears we're playing our best when it matters the most.

Unfortunately, ISU came back to beat Evansville 49-47 to maintain 2nd place in the MVC. Still a game ahead of Bradley and Creighton, though.

My predictions:

Missouri Tigers

-G Stefhon Hannah - complete stud

-G Keon Lawrence - almost a complete stud

-C Kalen Grimes - kicked off team for hitting someone with a shotgun in STL

-F Darryl Butterfield - probably gonna be kicked off team; got arrested last week for punching his girlfriend

-F Matt Lawrence - 3 point machine, I expect even more improvement this year

-F DeMarre Carroll - Vandy transfer finally eligible. he's my favorite player and he hasn't even played a game yet; got shot in the foot this past summer but he's fine

-G Mike Anderson Jr. - got arrested for DUI in the spring, won't play much

-G Nick Berardini - same as above, minus the DUI

-G JT Tiller - very solid player, i expect a lot of improvement

-F Leo Lyons - need him to step up inside

theres other guys, but no one is nearly as exciting as the thugs on our team.

Reality:

-Stefhon Hannah - lol

-Keon Lawrence - complete stud when he wants to be

-F Darryl Butterfield - shouldve been kicked off the team

-F Matt Lawrence - completely worthless

-F DeMarre Carroll - merely average/above average

-G Mike Anderson Jr. - hasnt played much

-G Nick Berardini - hasnt played at all really

-G JT Tiller - hey i was right on this one!

-F Leo Lyons - steps up inside if he feels like it.

Oh yeah, TT, you mentioned Lyons' rap career on the first page...did you know him and Willy Mo are in the same group together? They have a song called "Willy Mo for Prezident."

Butler - 51

UIC - 46

heartbreaking loss, it was tied with less than a minute left. Sadly it was the most fun I've ever had at a college basketball game.
