get this damn mizzou/msu game off my tv...i stay up all friggin' day (been up since 4am) to watch the illini and now i have to watch the end of a game i care nothing about....espn is so lame sometimes.

 

Yeah, god forbid they show the last 5 seconds of a close game instead of a 20-0 lead in the first 6 minutes. How dumb.

 

wouldn't have bothered me if it weren't already on another espn channel.

 

The reason they were able to switch to bonus coverage is because it was on another ESPN channel.

 

indeed...but i already have espnu...if i wanted to watch that game, i would have.

I can't imagine it being any more than it was the past two years. I think we have the talent to sneak into the tournament, but we'll probably make the NIT. Hopefully we can play you guys tough this year. I can't wait for the game here.

It's almost always tough for us there, regardless of talent. I think Anderson has you goig in the right direction. A lot of mess to clean up from that embarrassment Quin.

You aren't lying. We've got a decent class coming in next year. It'll be interesting to see what's going to happen with more of Anderson's type of players coming in.

That's the thing. His system requires a deep bench of top athletes. Right now the more talented teams might stumble against them early in the game, but when you're running 40 minutes of hell with 7 quality players, you can't expect them to keep it up all game.

Strange thing was that tonight was the opposite. MSU was deeper and more talented, but the press got to them in the second half, it definitely looked like they wore down.

asu has a pretty good team..can't say i've noticed much of harden.

the belmont bruins went to alabama and beat the tide...they're not having a good week against inferior opponents, heh....but to be fair, belmont has a pretty decent squad this year and would give a few teams quite a bit of trouble.

Harden didn't look like anything special Raisin. But it was his first game of the year, so it's tough to judge. That and UI was really playing some good defense out there.

 

Steve Holdren is just awful. 2 of Frazier, McCamey, and Meachem better not get in foul trouble this year, cause we'll be struggling with one of Holdren or Jordan getting serious minutes. This was the first full game I got to watch this year(watched most of the Hawaii game online at work today). I came away very impressed. All the chipping away ASU did was with no more than 2 starters on the floor. I know that bench minutes count too, but when the core rotation(Starting 5 + McCamey and Brock) were in there together things looked very crisp. Really liked the defensive effort they gave, and Pruitt looks like a new man out there. Mobile on the block and able to pass the ball. And all this against Pendergraf. Looking forward to the Duke game tomorrow, hope we give them a run.

They shot 57% for the game. With their defense, if they can even come close to that kind of shooting in a game, they can play with anybody.

 

Tonight's game will say a lot about whether this Illini team can be competitive in the Big Ten this year.

Brian Randle can shut down anyone and he took Harden out of the game. Illinois' athleticism is off the charts and they play some nasty d.

 

Harden needs to be more aggressive, but I'm withholding judgment for now.

They mentioned during the game yesterday that he started with two of his fingers on his left hand taped together, but removed the tape shortly after the game got underway. I believe they said it was a bone chip at the base of the finger.

He sure did. I made the picture from Chicagosports.com my desktop background as soon as I saw it. It must be exciting for the players to have him in attendance on occasion.

 

I was impressed by the Illini last night, and if that game was any indication, they should be able to hang with the top of the Big Ten this season. It was ASU, though, so I want to see how we fare against Duke and, hopefully, Marquette.

ASU is young and it was their first game, so we should've beat them. But I agree with Exile, they're much improved, and come the end of the year, that win's gonna look pretty good at least in the RPI.
