Sign ARod. Leave him at 3B.

Trade Pie and ARam to the Angels for Kendrick, Figgins and Ervin Santana

Trade Murton, Marshall, and whatever else necessary to the Marlins for Hermida.

That would give us a lineup of:

1. Figgins CF

2. Soriano LF

3. ARod 3B

4. Hermida RF

5. Lee 1B

6. Kendrick 2B

7. Theriot SS

8. Soto C

And a rotation of:

1. Zambrano

2. Lilly

3. Santana

4. Hill

5. Marquis/young guy

That lineup looks great to me. But, could it be done?

Ramirez's no trade clause would make it nearly impossible.

Perhaps, but you don't think he'd waive it to play in LA? I do. He'd still be in a great lineup, and would avoid playing in the cold weather.

Also, you're probably not getting Hermida from the Marlins at all, but whatever slim chance there might be drops to zero without Pie included.

Yeah, that was my concern. I think that ARam would still get us back Kendrick and Figgins, so I would consider Pie and Marshall to Florida for Hermida, and if I needed to throw in Murton or Cedeno or even Guzman, so be it. We would jsut nee dto figure out what else it would take to get Santana away from Anaheim.

A lineup that includes lefties in Hermida and Figgins, along with the addition of ARod would make this team MUCH better in 2008.

Chone Figgins is one of my least favorite players in the game. In an ironic twist, he's also one of the least productive.

Yeah, because why would you want a .393 OBP when you can have Soriano's .337 OBP in the leadoff spot?

I will say that if the Cubs really want to take a huge step forward, these are the kinds of moves that would have to be made. I dont know if I would do these moves.

What about the rest of Figgins' career where he is Ryan Theriot, but with 50 additional Ks/year? And what does Soriano have to do with anything? I don't want him leadoff with the current roster. Figgins doesn't change that. FWIW, I think the chances are slim that Chone repeats his .393 OBP at any other point in his career. Probably about as likely as Soriano putting up a .350 OBP again, as he did in 06.

As has been stated, Aramis has a no-trade clause and I doubt he's interested in waiving. That nixes the whole idea.

What if it were to NY? ARam for Cano? Would that be palatable for all parties?

You had me at "Sign A-Rod." For SS, RF, short center - wherever. I'm sure he can play SS again.

Nothing else compares in terms of the options available to improve the Cubs (and obviously that option -- signing A-Rod -- is dubious at best).

Why so intent on trading Aram? Cano is cheap and at a more valuable defensive position.

Trading Aramis isn't going to happen.

I don't think any trade involving Aramis is feasable. The Cubs wanted Aramis and he wanted to be here. I don't think anything has changed to make either party change their ideas.

Aramis took what was perceived as less than market value to stay in Chicago, so I'm not sure there is anything that would make him waive that other than someone paying him the amount he believed he gave up to stay.

Guzman just had TJS and is on the DL, so they couldn't trade him.

Wow. Why is everyone selling Aramis Ramirez short? He's posted a .900+ OPS the past four years and he's improved a lot defensively, he's a power hitter who rarely strikes out, he's on the right side of 30, and he's under contract for a decent price. Why on earth do you have to toss Pie in with that horrid, horrid, deal?

Ervin Santana? Is any pitcher in baseball more overvalued? I'm tired of Ervin Santana worship. I remember when the guy was the center piece of a rumored Carl Crawford deal. Minor league numbers, good but not great, can't pitch outside of his own park, horrible year this year, enough with the Santana love. The Angels probably don't have enough for Ramirez alone, period.

To me, Ramirez is worth more in trade than Mark Teixeira when he was traded. The Angels would have to give up a ton for the Cubs to even consider it.

And Chone Figgins? Oh yeah, that BABIP of OVER FOUR HUNDRED is real convincing to me.

That is a hideous trade proposal. I couldn't even read the rest of the post I was so mortified.

Did you consult Dr. Evil when drafting this seriously over-complicated scenario? How about you simply sign A-Rod be done?

I think I like this plan.

I think only a very limited part of the population is looking to move Ramirez, and selling him short.

I don't get the Santana love either.
