We gotta bring back prior for 5th starter if he recovers anywhere close to wood he will be throwing 94 with nasty hooks.

its been done before as long as he is training his body and also recovers he can be our 5th our of ST. If he returns even 80% of is best he will be a killer #2 in the playoffs.

Prior magically coming back with anything close to vintage Prior stuff is one of the few ways I see this team significantly improving, assuming new acquisitions are difficult because of the team sale.

Oh god please stop; you're killing me. You guys believe in leprechauns too?

THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A MARK PRIOR

HE WAS A FIG NEWTON OF YOUR IMAGINATION

GO BACK TO SLEEP NOW

Prior will be a middle reliever from here on, if that.

How do you figure? Other pitchers have had similar surgeries to Prior and came back to regain form. I forgot the prime example...wasn't it Chris Carpenter?

I'm not saying to expect ANYTHING from Prior. He could easily never regain form. But to completely dismiss him as a middle reliever I think is a bad idea.

Exactly.

Apparently, Prior had significant damage (which would explain the drop in velocity and mysterious undiagnosable pain he had for a couple years) and the repair went well. Let's see what he comes back with.

Come on Prior was just a big baby who couldnt deal with a little pain. He was clearly never hurt, and was basically just faking it because he likes sitting on his ass and not playing baseball. He is a figment of your imagination dude,.

Don't forget he was on steroids, too. Those tiny calves last spring were telltale.

There is a plethora (love that word) of good to great pitchers who recovered from TJ and had great following years, just hope Prior is one of them.

Has he been throwing at all?

Prior didn't have TJ. He had his shoulder scoped. I believe he's slated to start some basic long-toss throwing (or may have started already) soon.

Yeah it was that shoulder reconstruction thingy. Similar to the one Carpenter had IIRC.

No TJS for Prior.

We'll see. One of the things I liked best about this season was that we finally ended the reliance on Wood & Prior being our 1-2 punch. Now if Marky Mark can give us anything at all, it's a bonus. Woody too if he comes back.

That's your opinion I wrote mine. I'm well aware of other pitchers that have had this scope and it's worked but I'm pretty sure some others haven't come back as well. It's nice to look at the success stories and hope for the best.

I'm more curious to see if he'll change mechanically.

What, from clear to cream? I couldn't resist!

I wonder if he'll go back to House or do you think he'll go elsewhere and work this out?

I'm much more curious to see who he's with next year. Sorry Davhern.

Pitchers tend to recover better when having TJ than they do with shoulder surgery. The shoulder is one thing you do not want to mess with if you are making a living throwing a baseball.

There's been talk that the Cubs need a true #2 starter next year. The only problem is that there aren't any FAs that fit that bill, and teams don't necessarily trade them if they've got 'em. Now, I'm not saying that Mark Prior will regain everything that made him a dominant starter, but he's our best opportunity at significantly boosting the starting rotation. The real question is whether the Cubs will gamble the $3.5M to resign him?

Hopefully the Cubs will get creative here, and find a way to keep Prior on a deal with less guaranteed money but some sizeable incentives, plus most importantly, a team option for 2009.

Kerry Wood's 2007 contract would be a nice starting point:

$1.75M guaranteed

~$4.5 in graduated playing time incentives (starts, IPs, days on the roster)

~$1M or so in awards incentives (Allstar, Cy Young, etc.)

I have a feeling that if Prior is ever good again, it won't be until 2009 at the earliest.

Shoulder scopes actually have a better success rate than TJS
