IDIOT... Here it is.

One of his guarantees for the Cubs next year is that the Cubs won't be FORCED to use Mark DeRosa as an everyday player anymore next year because Ryan Theriot will be moved to 2B.

In other words, what he's saying is

Theriot (his Cubs MVP, mind you) >> DeRosa

Not that I needed to point that out.

It is my hope that a good SS is brought in so that Theriot no longer has to be used as an everyday player.

This.

It is my hope that a good radio host be brought in so that Mike Murphy no longer has to be used at all.

I wouldn't cry if ARod started at SS and Theriot started at 2B, with DeRosa traded, along with Jones and Marquis to trim some of the payroll.

Few would. But is Derosa really making that much?

the crush the chicago fans/media have on theriot is insane. i didn't fully appreciate it until i was in chicago listening to the people at the park and on the radio.

one host was glowing about how young the cubs are now, how it's nice to see the farm system produce players, etc using fontenot and theriot as his examples. some guy called in and basically called him a dummy, citing young players on the other playoff teams that are, you know, good. the radio guy didn't seem to care. they love them some theriot.

by the way, soto, theriot and wood probably got the biggest ovations during introductions on saturday. weird.

$4.75, and $5.5m the next two years. Not "that much" but a significant enough chunk.

In my mind he was Todd Walker cheap.

Well, he's making about as much as Jones is. Of the two, which is of more value to the team?

With Steve Trachsel getting the worst. Proving some people know what they're doing.

Also, I don't think you quite understand. His name is spelled THE-RIOT

It really is nuts. He is a likeable but ultimately underwhelming player that is nowhere near as good as people think he is. I rarely listen to Murph and hadn't heard his "Theriot is the MVP" rant for over a month, so I guess I figured he would have wised up. Guess not.

I also wouldn't mind trading DeRosa for the right deal. He'd probably look pretty good a few teams with his deal and production over the last 2 years.

Theriot sure, but Fontenot is hardly a product of our farm system.

Theriot had a VORP of 6.6 (11th on the team), and was 26th in baseball in that category for SS. He was also below average in the field. Why the love?

Lets calm down on the white part.

People love individuals that have heart and hustle and determination.

They also love the underdog and him being small almost autmaticaly makes him an underdog.

It doesn't matter if they are white, black, or Mexican. People seem to like Lee just fine, people seemed to like Jones just fine in the second half because he had a good two weeks. People also like Ward and correct me but they are all not white. What they have in common is that they go out there just about every day and seem like they give all they can.

Now I am not saying that I want Theriot starting next year, because I would rather have DeRosa at second and a different SS. But, I do want him on the team being a swing man starting about 1 out of every 4 games somewhere in the field. He works the pitchers and can do the little things that the team does need. However, can we stop about the race stuff. I know that there are people that judge people by their skin color but lets try not to.

Sign Arod, put Theriot at 2nd, move Dero to the OF, trade Jones, play Pie

Sign Arod, put Theriot at Util, Dero to 2nd, Play Pie, play a Jones/Murton platoon.

If we got the payroll for that, i'd be ok with either...i'd prefer the later though because Dero doesnt have quite the bat for a Corner OF spot, and midseason a Dunn trade (haha i'm really in fantasy land now) would be great.

Why do we have to ask why Theriot is so loved here? This is the same board that fawns over Matt Murton.

Matt Murton is actually good, Theriot really isn't.

You're missing the point, though. The Theriot love isn't even all that bad on these boards. It's by the general public and the media that he is overrated. Theriot gets tons of man-love from the general Cubs fan public.

Matt Murton is generally treated with indifference, at best, by the general Cubs fan public.

This statement makes absolutely no sense at all if you know anything about either player.
