Lets calm down on the white part.

People love individuals that have heart and hustle and determination.

They also love the underdog and him being small almost autmaticaly makes him an underdog.

It doesn't matter if they are white, black, or Mexican. People seem to like Lee just fine, people seemed to like Jones just fine in the second half because he had a good two weeks. People also like Ward and correct me but they are all not white. What they have in common is that they go out there just about every day and seem like they give all they can.

Now I am not saying that I want Theriot starting next year, because I would rather have DeRosa at second and a different SS. But, I do want him on the team being a swing man starting about 1 out of every 4 games somewhere in the field. He works the pitchers and can do the little things that the team does need. However, can we stop about the race stuff. I know that there are people that judge people by their skin color but lets try not to.

Unless your Juan Pierre, who was widely disliked and whose 2006 was better than Theriot's 2007.

Theriot didn't start his Cubs career batting like .174 in the first 2 months, either.

Everyone, myself included, was CRUNKED to have him on the Cubs before last season, despite how "much" we gave up to get him. I saw several Pierre jersey Ts in the first few weeks of last season. After they were 20 games out...not so much.

Pierre wasn't widely disliked. There were a lot of general fans who were upset when the Cubs decided not to sign him. It just got washed away pretty quickly with the Soriano signing, and it wasn't as fervent as it otherwise would have been because 2006 was such a horrible year that many people tuned out of after a month or two.

the "white" part is simply because most people assume that black and hispanic players are going to be more athletic. call it latent racism (though extremely benign) but the "undersized white guy who manages a few hits through sheer effort of will and grit" is the effing American Dream (cue soundtrack from "Rudy")

I don't know exactly what crunked is supposed to mean, but in this context I'm guessing it's "excited" or something.

I, and many others, were never fooled into thinking Pierre was a good addition to the team. What they gave up just made it all that much worse.

One thing, other than race, to differentiate how people viewed Pierre and Theriot is cost. When a guy like Theriot makes the minimum to basically do what Pierre did for millions, there's going to be a difference of perception. Additionally, there's the acquisition cost, in terms of players given up in trade.
