Talk me back from the ledge please. Will the Brewers have to 7-0 to beat us? I'm feeling kinda dumb about this.

Cubs record...Brewers record to tie...to win

0-6...3-3...4-2

1-5...4-2...5-1

2-4...5-1...6-0

3-3...6-0...N/A

4-2...N/A...N/A

5-1...N/A...N/A

6-0...N/A...N/A

Updated for today's win

If we go 2-4, they have to take 3/4 from the Padres to just tie.

We're fine as long as we win 2 more games.

Thanks for keeping this updated, by the way. I can't keep up with it in my head, and I've been using it as a reference since you started.

keep in mind Griffeys out, and that alters the Reds lineup.

They're 4-6 in their last 10, and have lost their last 2.

Hardly the juggernaut they were (for a little while -- it was a brief blip).

As for Harrang, the Giants just hung 5 runs on him and he blew a big lead. Yes, those Giants, without Barry.

Yeah thanks. It's much appreciated.

I guess the only real worry I have is facing Horse Head Harrang

Even if we do lose to him, the Reds have a bunch of bad pitchers, 2 of which we should be able to make short work of. Remember, their number 3 hitter, who's a nototious Cub killer is out of the picture.

What ledge? How many games do you think we will lose to the likes of the Marlins and the Reds?

I hoping we clinch in Miami, but we're too close and I'm feeling nervous

Get yourself together man. we have Ted Lilly tommorow. Thats a W. Between Marquis and Hill, chalk up at least 1 more W. Zambrano wants the Reds BAD. 1 more W.

Meanwhile, whatever happens with the Cards, are the Brewers going to beat Peavy, Young and Maddux? I'm thinking not.

Peavy is scheduled to pitched Wednesday against the Giants.

Wait, so are the Cardinals losing on purpose like the Astros did by forcing Roy Oswalt's wife to have her baby that day?

Soul? Is that you? Talking sense into the overly pessimistic? Weren't you one of them just a while back? ;)

Anyway, the magic number is 4. In the (after tonight) 12 games left, when the number of Cubs wins and Brewers losses = 4, it'll be over. Could be as soon as Wed night, could take slightly longer. But it will happen.

If it doesn't, the Cubs will have had a disastrous (think far worse than 2004) finish and wouldn't deserve to get in, anyway.

Not that I care. But, what kind of idiot leaves his injured superstar in a meaningless game (to the Cards) when you are being blown out?

Or leaving your ace (at the moment) pitcher to hang when he's getting shelled for 9 runs?

It just doesn't make any sense.

You don't think the Brewers would rather get into the bullpen early?

Remind me not to have you manage a ballclub anytime soon...

I'm not sure what you're talking about... We're saying it doesn't make sense for the Cardinals to leave their star players in a meaningless game when they're getting shelled. Not because it gives the Cardinals a better chance to win - because it keeps your star players from getting hurt for nothing.

Was there really a 'cubbies suck' chant in Milwaukee a few minutes ago? I was watching the game and I'm pretty sure that's what they were chanting. If so, that's pretty hilarious. I hope they do that some more.

Haha, that's pretty [expletive]. They're three games behind us, and they're chanting that we suck? Wow!

Just like "overrated" chants in college sports. :)

True, but if the Padres are still fighting for it, I wouldn't be surprised to see Peavy on short rest.

Yeah, it's me. Not going to cower in a corner over this thing anymore. This race is in our hands. We either win a few games against what should be marginal opposition or else we don't deserve it. It's really that simple.

It's the Crew that have dropped 11 games in the standings since the All-Star break. Not us. We need to start acting like it. They're the ones who have collapsed.

Everyone is freaking out because 2004 is still fresh in our minds. We expect to see the Cubs collpase down the stretch, and it might end up being that way. If fact, if any team would collapse in this situation it would be the Cubs. But the chances of that are statistically insignificant. So let the Brewers and their fans have a night to think that they are still in it, and tomorrow we go out and show them that we are not rolling over and letting them back in this.

I am one of the boards biggest pessimistics and I am telling this to you. We all but won this thing on Sunday, and I am willing to stake my reputation on the fact that we have nothing to worry about.

Yeah, seriously guys, I can't believe people are actually expecting us to lose this division lead.

I'm gonna get into a lot of trouble if I guarantee anything, but look at the numbers quickly. The Brewers basically do have to win out to give themselves a chance, our job realistically is to not get swept twice.

Pujols is playing to accumulate one more RBI. a blowout game is the perfect opportunity to get said RBI. but alas, he drew a walk in his RBI opportunity and was immediately replaced with a pinch runner.

Yost the 3rd Brewer tossed in a blowout. He's getting very Dusty like, passing the buck, now in the wins too.

I don't get this. after screwing up the double switch and getting ejected in April 2004, Dusty never again was ejected for his own actions (I believer there were a couple that happened automatically due to beanball wars). he decided that sticking up for his players was not important because he looked foolish in his sons eyes.

Is that really what it was? I could never understand that. I remember in '03 he got into this shouting match with LaRussa and it was awesome. I never really saw him do crap afterwards and it still confuses me.

I was talking about his blaming the umps for all their problems. Just as Dusty and his players did the 2nd half of ''04. Yost will never admit fault in a postgame interview. Oh he's a tactical buffoon too.
