Steering back away from the steroid talk, Lou said before tonight's game that Kendall is rested up and will probably play the rest of the way. We didn't need a Catcher with power and a good throwing arm anyway.

Geovany Soto played for the Cardinals tonight. He was playing under the alias of "So Taguchi."

This is straight up insanity.

Screw you, Lou. Soto has clearly won the starting job. You go with the hot hand down the stretch, period, end of discussion.

He's an American citizen -- born in Puerto Rico.

as is Pujols, I believe. And nobody in MLB believes Pujols is the age he proclaims.

Riii-iight, the same Albert Pujols who was born in the Dominican Republic. Who later moved to Kansas City in 1996, graduated from a high school there, enrolled in a community college to play baseball, and became a US citizen in 2007?

Got news for you, Albert is the age he says he is. Because today, after 9/11, you can't become a US citizen without real, verified documentation.

From Cubs.com

Expect Jason Kendall to get the majority of starts behind the plate for the remaining games. "This is experience time," Piniella said. "This is when you use experience people, and you go with them. This is not time to experiment too much or get too cute."

Lol what a bunch of BS. Absolute crap, plain and simple.

That's the most Dusty I've ever seen from Lou. It's going to cost us before this thing is over, I'm telling ya.

Yes, sure, let's GRIT our way to the playoffs! Hooray for outmoded ideas and clinging to hollow traditionalism!

Not to derail this thread...but frankly I put less and less stock in what Steve Stone says these days anyway. I still think there's a lot of bitterness there toward the Cubs. I think he's burned a lot of bridges and looks for ways to criticize them.

I agree with this 100%.

Ryne Sandberg was obviously on steroids going into 1984. his slg. jumped 170 points. had to be steroids, right Stoney?

Gotta give Lou some credit, there are a lot of managers who wouldn't shift so much playing time to a guy who spent most of the year in the minors, and would just stick with the "proven veteran" during the stretch run.

By the way, here's an article: Get to know...

Geovany Soto.

Hmm...I don't know how much credit should go to Lou here. I'm sure he has a lot of input on which minor leaguers to bring up, and the Cubs didn't want anything to do with Soto most of the year, instead preferring to trade for Kendall and give Koyie Hill far too much PT. Soto got called up because he was the league MVP, and he's playing everyday because even Lou can't sit a guy that's hitting near .500 and hitting just about everything that's thrown his way.

I'll give Lou credit for a lot of things, but I think Soto forced this with his performance.

Hahaha...so after all this credit was given to Lou, now we go back to Kendall.

That IS how players earn a spot---by their performance. ^^scratches head^^

absolutely, he has had a fine career and has played very well since he came over to the Cubs.

His career means nothing about how he will play in the next 3 games.

Since coming to the Cubs he's hitting .275/.366/.365 and has a .089 caught stealing percentage.

Geovany Soto is hitting .378/.431/.507 with a .286 caught stealing percentage.

Where exactly has Kendall earned his spot over Soto? Lou always talks about playing the hot hand, and then he goes and completely betrays that philosophy.

His career does mean something, as well as how he has played since he got here. I can live with either, but it isn't as cut and dried as many think. Personally, I would always go with experience, esp at catcher, if it is close.

But that's the point. He hasn't played well since he got here. I just listed the stats. He's on the downside of his career...so what he did back when he could play decently has no bearing on the next 3 games.

And it's not close.

Even if the experience tells you definitively that you are playing one of the weakest defensive catchers in the league?

I'm not with you [-(

you will not be swayed on this, so we will agree to disagree.

Lou is one of the best managers in recent baseball history, so I will side with his judgment.

Pujols is one the best baseball players in recent baseball history too. But sometimes he strikes out, and sometimes he make an error.

I will let Pujols go to bat for me anytime and gladly accept the results.

I actually agree Lou has been good.

I just think he's making a terrible mistake here, going against what he normally would do. And I pray it doesn't come back to bite us in a big way.

This year Barrett did worse than Kendall and I didn't see too many people yell about that and Barrett may be worse defensively than Kendall too.

I genuinely don't understand how you can look at the numbers that I posted, and dismiss them out of hand because of a blind faith in Lou. Sincerely, I don't understand it.
