i'm not sure why anyone is surprised that the Cubs are playing badly. The five games against the Cardinals will be the final 5 nails in the coffin, mark my words

For the Cards.

as do the Cubs. their five remaining games may have enough combined suckitude to open a worm hole to another dimension

I am beginning the annual process of shrouding my Cubs disappointment in a cloak of Bears excitement.

It's a mental thing I do. Keeps me from going out and shooting small animals. And throwing furniture.

Not as much as the Cubs.

If there was ever a must-win game this season......this is it. Jason Marquis going tomorrow, can't be counted on. Theodore needs to pitch a lot better than he has in recent starts. Oh yeah, and the Cubs should try scoring some runs.

That's a heck of a lot of things that need to be happening, and isn't, for a team trying to win a division.

Yep, the Cubs suck at pitching, and they suck at hitting. Which direction would you say they are likely to take in the standings?

$110 million doesn't buy what it used to.

Right now, I'm more comfortable with Marquis pitching than with anyone else on this staff.

Hahah, yeah doesn't that pretty much say it all?

Let's not pretend like the Brewers and Cardinals are world-beaters, now.

Could be, but then again, this is the last of the games against the good (ie non-NL Central) contenders that the Cubs have struggled against all year. And even if they lose both, the worst they will be is 1 game back. In theory, these are the games they are supposed to lose, and then the must wins will be against STL and the rest of the crappy central teams. So, even though they've also struggled against the NLC also rans, they will still be in this thing if they lose to LA. They will just put themselves in the difficult position of actually having to win some games, which has been proven to be very difficult for them this year.
