Well kiss Zambrano's awesome start good bye. This was his no hitter.

No. You already had jinxed it.

Pretty sure something one person says over the internet is relayed to Zambrano via the bat signal making him give up a hit. :)

If you want to test the baseball gods wrath, go right ahead.

If a DH was called tomorrow, who would start?

Maybe the Cards would send Ankiel to the mound in a spot start?

I've been wondering if LaRussa would ever consider using him as a pitcher in an emergency situation, or a late-inning blowout BP saver.

Thank you. I always wondered why no one seemed to know that not talking about it only really applies to the people actually in the dugout.

Probably not with the mental issues that took him from the mound.

Yeah, nobody "knew" that it didn't really do anything. Thank God you guys are here to wise us all up.

Won't be a DH tomorrow.

Why not? Both teams play night games the following night.

We have to head to the West Coast tomorrow, though. It'd be doable maybe, but absolutely not ideal.

Then that's one insane coincidence that whenever some fan makes a comment, so do the players/coaches in the dugout.

Tuesday's game against the Giants isn't until 7 p.m.

I agree. I don't think that should ever be an option. He worked very hard to get back and I think it would be too much of a risk to put him back into that position. I enjoy seeing bad things happen to the Cardinals and I have to admit I took some satisfaction in Ankiel's inability to find the strike zone, but I still think it's a really good story that he was able to get back to the major leagues and not have his career completely ruined. I hope he can still enjoy a semi-successful career, while somehow not helping the Cardinals win along the way.

Crap. Just realized my mistake in my original post.

A double header could happen tomorrow - like I said it's doable - but they'll get into San Fran on short rest most likely with a day/night DH. May still be the best option though.

So if Zambrano is done for the night, can he come back in a couple days to pitch again? Wednesday night or Thursday afternoon?

Nope.

could someone give a game status please?

There is no game status right now. It's raining too hard for them to play and will continue to do so for the next long while still.

Yeah, I definitely don't think La Russa would risk any more mental issues with Ankiel just to save a few pitches. As important as this comeback seems to him, I'd say Ankiel's pitching days are over for good.

And that's probably the right decision.

Z was perfect thru three. Bottom third, Murton with an IF single and Kendall up to bat when the tarp came back out on the field. Murton's single is the only blemish on either pitcher's line thru 2.5+ innings.

Cool. what is the score, inning, game sit when the rain came, how did the Cubs and Cards seem to be doing etc.
