WGN radio - field looks completely soaked with multiple puddles in the outfield. Not looking too good, currently a break in the rain, though.

just call the game, they're not going to get a complete game in unless they keep stopping and starting until about 7 AM

Not if they're just aiming for 5. You could sneak 2.5 more innings in by midnight :)

I really think just getting through 5 is all they'd be hoping for tonight. At least that will have avoided completely wasting Z's start and avoid a double header tomorrow.

If this game ever starts, I hope we see Marquis. Seeing that we have a day game in 16 hours or so, it would suck to have to depend on Lilly to throw 8 innings without going to the pen because of using them all tonight. At least with Marquis, you can probably get to the 8th without using your pen.
Marquis just pitched three days ago; he's not going to be able to pitch tonight. It's bullpen time if the game resumes, followed by Lilly and an emergency callup tomorrow. It would have been different if there was an earlier off-day this time through the rotation.

The reason I say Marquis is I thought today was his throw day.

Hell of a catch by that little second baseman for Saudi Arabia.

terrible call, though.

Initially, I thought you were wrong, but upon seeing it again it looked pretty bad.

The hope is he hasn't thrown his side-session yet and will be good for a couple innings so that the pen isn't completely screwed.

I hadn't thought of it that way. Maybe he could pitch just a couple of innings (he only went 6 last time anyway) and then get one inning each per reliever.

So despite the fact that everyone and their mother could see this game couldn't be played, they had to start it. Because of this, we complete waste our ace pitchers start.

Thanks MLB.

Its up to the Cubs, not MLB, until the game begins.

It wasn't raining at the time so it would have been really hard to justify them not starting.

Actually with this being the last time into town for the Cards, and the season starting into the stretch run, the umpires are more or less under the gun from MLB to play. If this had been back in April, its the Cubs call. Now with looking at having to work around the 20 days in a row max in the BPA its a no brainer looking to get a two hour window they are playing per MLB.

That's relevant now once the game has started; it was the Cubs' decision, not the umpires' to try to play the game rather than calling it before it started.

With it being the last time the Cards are in and the time of the season it isnt the Cubs call to start. MLB dosent want the headaches of dealing with the players association to get a waiver so they can play more than 20 days in a row. The supposed two hour window they had to start guaranteed a start and the chips would fall where they may.

Apologies if this was already posted (if so, just tell me the page number if possible), but can someone refresh my memory on this. If we get through 5 with the lead, is it game over assuming it gets rained out? Or do we just finish the game from the 5th when possible like we've done earlier with that game in the 8th? I forget if there was a change in the rules this season.

This isn't a racist comment at all, but are there really caucasion people in Saudi Arabia?

h\They are mostly Americans. I played in the LLWS and we faced Germany, which was basically Ramstein Air Force Base's little league team. I'd assume the same is true for Saudi Arabia

As long as the trailing team has had five innings at-bat, the game is official and counts. I forget the reasons they might suspend a game and pick it back up later (darkness?), but they are pretty uncommon in MLB.

If we are through five and tied, the stats count but the game still gets made up.

I might have the wrong country, but I know last year there was a country with quite a bit of Americans on it due to a lot of families living there due to a big oil rig. I think it might have been Saudi Arabia.

It all depends.

1) We are leading at the end of the the Cardinals half of the fifth, we win.

2) We take the lead in our half of the bottom of the fifth, suspended game.

3) We dont make it the fifth and it really dosent matter.

My old teacher like 6 years ago was white and from Saudi Arabia.

If the Cubs lead after 5 (or even 4 1/2) it's over. The new rule relates to the situation where the Cubs lead after the last completed inning, but the Cardinals take the lead in the top of an inning without the Cubs getting their at-bat that inning. Under the old rules the game would have reverted back to the last completed inning, the Cardinals' runs come off the board, and the Cubs win. Under the new rules the Cardinals keep their runs, but the game is suspended and resumed at that point.

I thought that was the UAE (united arab emirates, where dubai is).

That is correct. A friend of mine in college actually played in the LLWS as a part of the Saudi team that was 100% Americans.

The other change is if the game is official but tied. Under the old rules it was declared a tie game (meaning individual statistics count but the game had to be replayed in its entirety). Under the new rules it's suspended and resumed.
