What's up with nobody wanting to play double headers anymore? Why use a mutual off-day when they could just play two tomorrow?

Cubs have a trip to the west coast. A good bet is even with the one game they wont get into San Fran until 1AM Chicago time.

Because the Cubs have to fly to San Francisco for a game on Tuesday. The weather forecast tomorrow sounds like they'll be lucky to get one in, let alone two, so maybe they decided it sasn't even worth trying it.

Thanks MLB. That was worth trying to get that game in. Glad we basically wasted Z's turn in the rotation. :x

It was the Cubs decision to play.

Well, then stupid Cobs.

Just a thought — maybe MLB should contract with Accuweather or some other professional outfit instead of relying on the combination of a head groundskeeper and a link to the NWS.

Question;

Will the game start all over when its played, or pick up where it left off when the rain came tonight?? (Murton on 1st, 1-1 count on Kendall, in the bot 3rd)

Since it isn't an official game it starts over. All stats from tonight's game are wiped out. Basically it's treated as if there wasn't a game tonight.

Basically none of the stats from tonight's game will count, and the makeup game will begin from the first inning.

MLB standing rules with this situation, (time of season, last trip into town), that they play. So it was MLBs call.

I have no interest in starting a west coast trip with our bullpen spent and our lineup drain because they had to play 18 innings then fly 4 hours to sf.

What's the forecast for gametime tomorrow??

Would hate for the Cubs to have to sit through some more delays to delay their flight to SF... a "too tired" team = "more prone to suck and lose" team, even against bad competition.

Horrible, judging from some of the earlier posts in this thread. They'll be lucky to get the game in tomorrow.

Not to worry. I'm sure the Cubs could find plenty of medicinal "pick-me-ups" if they happened to make a quick stop in the Giants clubhouse before stopping at the hotel tomorrow night.

Only if Barry is in a sharing mood.

Yikes. Just what the Cubs don't need: an impromptu doubleheader sometime in the next month and a half on a scheduled day off.

Actually Neifi might be a better source for this type of help. :D

The Cubs will be going on a road trip after tomorrow's game and a double header could put a real strain on the pitching staff if the starters can't go deep in the game (not to mention the Cubs lost Z after he pitched 3 innings; they'd have to find an emergency starter if 2 were played tomorrow).

Also, tomorrow's weather may not support one game... Finally, don't underestimate the value of the gate. The Cubs (and every other team) would much rather try to reschedule a single game (or schedule a day-night double header days into the future), if necessary, instead of playing a double header the next day because far fewer people would be in attendance on the short notice.

Yea but with Dusty gone would Lou let him hang around the team?

As others pointed out in this thread an alternative (one I'd prefer) would be to wait until the end of the season and play it the next day if needed. If it has no bearing on the pennant race it could just be cancelled. And even if they get the game in tomorrow they still have that issue to deal with for making up tonight's game.

Well, for me, one good thing came out of Zambrano starting today - now I get to see Hill on Wednesday and Marshall on Thursday. Had the game never been started everyone would have been pushed back a day and I would have been stuck with Jason Marquis on Wednesday.
