I have faith in hendry that he'll make something happen, whether its Willy Mo, Matt Stairs, or even Adam Dunn, every year Hendrys made something happen, be it buying, as in the case of Aramis Ramirez, Kenny Lofton, and Nomar, selling, as in the Maddux trade, or those little whats the point deals that scored us the likes of Jody Gerut and Matt Lawton.

The Cubs may not be looking good the past week, but thanks in part to the Brewers, we ARE a contender, and Hendry know it, and something will happen.

With all of the negative comments that I've read about Pena, he should be very cheap. The Red Sox have been trying to dump him and basically gave up. I would offer a middle prospect and no way to Murton or Ohman. If you're going to trade Murton or Ohman, you can package them this off season and get something of value.

This team needs a power bat; the risk/reward is there with Pena. He still hits LHP well, even this year: 805 OPS. I like to think Pena would have pounded Wandy last night, because I'm tired of tipping my cap to these crappy^H^H^H^H^H^Hcrafty lefties who keep baffling the Cubs. He'd be a solid platoon partner for Jones regardless of Sori's status.

And I think we have to plan on Sori not coming back for any reg season games, despite the optimistic Labor Day projection. Labor Day is less than a month away for crying out loud; he might not even be able to run 3/4 speed by then.

I would give up Ohman in a heartbeat -- he has little value.

Having watched Pena play this year and last for Boston, if the NL had a DH, I'd say go for it, but if we play him every day in the OF, he'll give up as many runs as he generates.

Ok, that's probably an exxageration, but honestly, he is far and away the absolute worst OF I've ever seen play the game - BAR NONE!! He gets no jump on the ball whatsoever and bungles play after play out there.

That said, I guess we're in a desparate situation for some offense, and if he can be gotten cheaply, I suppose I'd get him too. I just wouldn't expect him to be the piece that gets us to the playoffs.

There's a reason Cincy gave up on him and Boston is giving up on him. Boston dearly needs more offense and you don't see them excited about the prospect of playing him very often either.

It's a gamble, but I guess if we're not gonna replace Jones with Pie or someone else within our system, we may as well get him and try it.

Don't you believe that for a second. Ohman is a Loogy who has had 2 bad outings in a row, but has been pretty good for the last few years. Pretty good Loogies have long careers and are in demand most of the time.

Yeah, he's in so much demand the Cubs just sent him packing for Iowa.

Well, he has little value now, what with his self-proclaimed shoulder problems and all.

who are you talking about, ohman or pena?

I don't believe Wil Bad Ohman is worth his 2 year $2.5mil contract -- he's just not that good or consistent and that's not just an opinion based on his last couple of outings or reports of a hurt shoulder. I would bet a minimum wage farm hand like Rapada could fill the LOOGY role just fine.

If you can dump the future money owed to him on someone else and get back a 25 year old power bat that may still have a nice upside, I think you have to do that deal.

Wily Mo on his position:

Wily Mo Peña-OF- Red Sox Aug. 8 - 8:52 am et

Wily Mo Pena said Tuesday that he hopes the Red Sox trade him.

Pena has reportedly cleared waivers, which means Boston is free to deal him to any team. "I want to be traded," Pena said. "I want to play. They know I want to play. I'm surprised I wasn't traded before the deadline. They want me to perform, but how can I perform when I have just a couple of at-bats, then they take me out, and I don't play again for days? They said I would be given a chance to play, but it hasn't happened."

I've altered my position. Personally I don't think the Cubs are a playoff caliber team this year - if they make it, great, but I just don't see it happening.

If they can get Pena cheaply in a trade, get him and stick him out there to play EVERY day somewhere in the OF - then in the offseason, put together some kind of program with him to work with a gold glove defensive OF'r to work on his defense and a hitting instructor to teach him how to either hit a curveball or lay off them when they're out of the strikezone.

I agree with all of you who say he has potential and he is definitely still young - I just don't think he ever got the chance to progress through the minor leagues like he should have been where he would have learned alot of these things.

I'm not convinced he can learn how to be a good OF'r or a decent curveball hitter, but at this point I don't think we're a good enough team to do anything anyways - go ahead and give it a try.

They aren't a top 4 NL team by any stretch, but they could still very easily make the playoffs.
