Off the top of my head, a list of teams that could be interested in Cesar:

- Red Sox (hey, they got Cabrera in the Nomar deal)

- Baltimore

- KC

- White Sox

- Twinkies

A couple of these are a strecth. What about the NL?

Toronto has been mentioned a few times, not sure why though.

As much as I like Murton, if he's just sitting on the bench in favor of Cliff Floyd, why bring him up for just 5 games? It makes sense to call on Fox to act as the back up/platoon/ph at 1b with Ward.

I like the move.

Floyd's next injury will likely be Murton's calling card.

Assuming we are going to send Fox back down, I don't like burning one of his option years on 4 games. For the love of God, let Ward start!!!

You're saying that Levine isn't that bad and basing it on him nailing one trade. I'm saying that him nailing one trade doesn't make up for the overall poor job he does, not just at getting inside info on trades, but analyzing the team, providing insightful commentary and not being smug when people call him out on his poor opinions..

All that other stuff aside...I'm just saying we should take his scoops with the same grain of salt we'd take anyone else's.

All of those guys are just as reliable as one another. Just because he reports something as being imminent doesn't make it any less likely to happen than if someone else had reported it, IMO.

ohh, if we could dump Izturis on the White Sox that would just make my week! :)

Unless we get Uribe, Terrero, or Owens in return.

I agree. Without numbers to back me up, because I'm too lazy to look them up, it seems like Ward has done really well filling in for Lee. Offensively & defensively.

I honestly cant think of anyone else that needs a glove SS at this point. Boston maybe but that is a big maybe on my part.

Some teams like having veteran depth during the stretch run as well.

Lugo and Izzy have remarkably similar numbers this year. Both have exactly a .602 OPS and Izzy has about a 10 point advantage in OBP.

Lugo, quite obviously, has been better throughout his career but the Sox may think he'd have a chance to be an upgrade this year splitting time with Lugo. If Hendry is willing to part with him cheaply, I think it may be a possibility.

Fox is going to turn 25 tomorrow. This will be his first option used, so he will be 28 during the season when his options run out (assuming they send him up and down every season until then). If he's still being shuttled back and forth from the minors at 28, there probably won't be that much concern if the Cubs lose him.

They don't need to officially announce the move until right before game time. Maybe they're waiting to see if the Izturis trade (assuming Levine is right) can be completed in time for today's game and if not somebody (my guess is still Gallagher) gets sent down.

Except simply sending Gallagher down doesn't open a spot for Fox on the 40-man.

They're going to need to create openings on both the 40- and the 25-man rosters.

Lugo has been bad this year but at least the guy has been productive. Izturis with men on base has been horrible as in .100 avg horrible.

Ooo good point

Essentially irrelevant. If a 25 year old with Fox's skill set can't make it by age 28, he's garbage anyway.

By the way, nice early birthday present for Jake-a-roo!

Has Gallagher's dad heard anything regarding Sean staying up or going down?

I think it does. The only thing I know of Levine is what he does on comcast. He seems like a Sam Smith, throw everything to the wall and see what sticks, kind of guy. He's awful when analyzing what's wrong with the team, falling back on the crutch of them needing to be more clutch and needing chemistry and stuff like that. If Bruce Miles starts to talk about a potential deal, I'll perk up. But if Levine doesn, I really don't have any confidence in it.

Ward probably will start against RHP. And DeRosa might play there against LHP. Fox just gives them a bit more depth on the bench while Lee is out.

I'm not overly concerned about Fox's options. It's yet to be seen if he can perform in the OF like a quality major league outfielder. If he can't then as a 1b, his value drops significantly. He's pretty much done as a C.

Not sure why...but this smells like a showcase to me...he obviously helps fill the DLee void, but if it wasn't a showcase move I think they'd not burn his option...

Considering all the flak that was stirred up on his first call up, he's probably better off not making more waves before official announcements are made.

I'm still intrigued by the notion that Fox is up so that other teams can have a look at him prior to the trade deadline...

Neither is meant to drive in runs though. This is a bit of a stretch I agree, but maybe the Sox are fed up with the lack of production from Lugo and are looking to give him some competition hoping to light a fire under him. If nothing else, Izzy is probably a little better defensively than Lugo - if both continue not to hit the rest of the way.

ESPN1000 just reported once again that the cubs are close to dealing izturis and that fox has been called up.

They also said he'll (Fox) will be activated today. Uhh... Duh?

I'm gonna listen in on ESPN 1000.

Someone else with a death wish can listen to 670.

I believe AM 600 also does some sporting news. Meh. If anyone really is bored, they can go ahead and listen to that.

If you hear anything related to this, report back.

I'll bite the bullet and listen to the SCORE. They just had an update saying there's grumblings that Izturis is close to being traded.
