Can I get a quick overview on Blevins before I decide just how irate to get over this trade?

Very good relief numbers in AA this year. Probably will be a serviceable MLB reliever, not really worth getting irate over unless your team is getting Jason Kendall.

Hendry on the radio talking about it now. "Gamer and winner" are the first two words he used to describe him, then went on to cite career numbers. Can we please get a GM who can recognize when someone is over the hill and when their career numbers are worth paying attention to?

I haven't been following Kendall at all. So why is everyone in the media (Len & Bob, Pat Ron, along with the ESPN guys) saying this is a good pickup when most people here hate the trade?

Screw you Hendry.

Honestly, Jason Kendall? JASON KENDALL.

He's had a decent to great OBP every year since 2001. He's been horrible this year which worries me, but otherwise what's to hate about him.

Because everyone in the media is dumb.

Kendall has 292 ABs this year and is OPSing .542. His on-base is lower than Jacque Jones's.

Did I mention he's on a $13M deal this year?

HE HAS AN OPS IN THE MID .500'S THIS YEAR

WHY DOESN'T ANYONE ELSE CARE ABOUT THAT

He's also had absolutely no power.

That said, I'm pretty neutral on this deal. I don't know much about Blevins, but a friend told me he's really not as valuable of an asset as his numbers would indicate. Kendall, even at his current production, is an upgrade. At his production the few years before this one? He'd by a massive upgrade.

Because the media looks at his career numbers and remember that he was good in 2000 whereas everybody here sees his sub 600 OPS this year and realizes that he's over the hill.

what do you expect them to say? "well, the cubs just picked up arguably the worst hitter in major league baseball."

The media likes to use terms like 'clutch' and discuss Kendall's career numbers, whereas everyone here is concerned about how he's likely to perform when he gets here.

Because his OPS is lower than ARam's SLG this year. He's publicly said he doesn't try to hit for power, so for several years he's been pretty much a guarantee of a sub .700 OPS. His body is broken down from catching all these years and previous injuries, and there's nothing to get excited about defensively. This is exactly like the Cesar Izturis trade, exactly.

Cubs have acquired Jason Kendall to Oakland for Bowen and Cash.

He's been terrible this year, but quite good each of the past few. He is getting a bit old, but as a rental I'm ok with this. Plus we didn't give much up.

.709 OPS in 2006, .666 OPS in 2005. Thats quite good?

OBP since 2003:

.399

.399

.345

.367

.261

He's never been much of a slugger. I am quite concerned about his terrible numbers this year.

I think it's just a given around here for people to hate anything and everything the Cubs do.
