For those worried about a Cardinals run, we have effectively pushed them out of the race, by matching the gritty and scrappy factor (Eckstein and Kendall). The Brewers have no such player. We will win the central

I don't think you get much scrappier than two time world series champion Craig Counsell.

You can't spell Gruff without Graffanino and a U.

I haven't been following Kendall at all. So why is everyone in the media (Len & Bob, Pat Ron, along with the ESPN guys) saying this is a good pickup when most people here hate the trade?

Because everyone in the media is dumb.

Kendall has 292 ABs this year and is OPSing .542. His on-base is lower than Jacque Jones's.

Did I mention he's on a $13M deal this year?

Don't the Pirates pay most of that?

Soccer already pointed out that the Cubs are on the hook for approximately $3.5 of his contract, and that's before considering however much cash the A's will be sending with him.

I caught it. It was posted while I was typing. Thanks.

I wonder if this AB will decide if Koyie is a Cub tomorrow...

If going 0-for-whatever for however long he did kept him around this long, his HR just reserved his seat thru the end of the season.

Let's hope he is anyway. Give Soto regular ABs in Iowa rather than benching him here...

i'm just stunned that having a .300 hitter sacrifice to set things up for a .220 hitter and a .110 hitter didn't work out. wonders never cease.

It'd be less annoying if Lou didn't have DeRosa bunt all the time.

For those of you pissed about trading Blevens, if he really had 2 terrible years before this good one, at least we can't continue to rip on Hendry for not trading a player at his highest value. Of course we didn't get much value in return, but I digress...

Kendall is a no risk deal for the Cubs. He is in the last year of his contract and if he is a bust, you just let him walk.

I think this is a decent acquisition if for no other reason that you do not want to try to get to the post season with two unproven catchers (Hill and Soto).

It is a good move to have a veteran catcher on the staff that has been "through the wars". According to Beane, Kendall's greatest strength has been the handling and rapport he had with the young pitching staff of the Athletics.

Going to a team like the Cubs with a chance for post-season play may just give him a new life.
