Bruce Levine is on ESPN right now reporting that the Police concert completely destroyed a good part of centerfield. He said it's the worst he has ever seen the field. I don't remember the field being impacted at all by the Jimmy Buffett concert? That's bad news to have the field look bad when Wrigley should be at its finest.

Easy, a bunch of wannabe some-sort-of-Caribbean-hippie's are going to go easier on the field than a bunch of some-sort-of-80's-punkster's.

CF is where the stage was, though, not any of the seating. There was seating all throughout short center and the entire infield, but it doesn't sound like there's a problem with those areas.

Maybe they used a significantly larger and heavier stage than what Buffett had.

Well the area where CF is was occupied by the actual stage. Also the OF was almost completely covered by planks for people to walk on. No one was walking on grass in the OF

One more reason to tear that field up when they sell the team.

Because a stupid band tore up the field?

wasn't their talk of gutting the field already? maybe this will just speed up the process.

Here's a USA Today article on the issue.

As the Cubs held a workout Thursday before resuming play Friday after the All-Star break, the grass in center field was discolored and the turf appeared to have numerous divots in it - the remnants of two Police concerts last week.

"It's a little messy. Sometimes it'll happen and you have to make the adjustment," Cubs center fielder Angel Pagan said after testing the area, some of which appeared to have been re-sodded.

"The grass is thick," Pagan said. "The ball is going to bounce a little more and snake a little more. I was getting power shagging today so I can get used to it. Tomorrow we have a game, and I might be in there. You've got to get to know it today so tomorrow it won't be a problem."

Manager Lou Piniella said it was playable and there were a few spots where grass had to be replaced and painted.

I don't know how big the spots are, but I heard that they are going to let the majority of them fill themselves in. That won't happen this season though because grass seeds itself in the spring. Edited by Wilson A2000

I imagine the setup and take down of the stage and sound equipment was much more destructive on the grass.

I used to work in event production, and I'm surprised it's not unplayable.

I just saw video of it on the news and it looks TERRIBLE. It is much worse than I thought it was hearing some of the players describe it. There must be 100 brown patches and holes in the ground. Some look to be a couple of feet big. There are a couple of large sections of sod put in that look to be 5 feet by 10 feet or so. All in all it looks terrible. I am embarrassed as a Cubs fan that our players have to play on a field that crappy.

What the heck? Did they let everyone pee on the ground or something?
