of course not...but...earlier in the season i still thought that their pitching would start to fall apart...

the cubs keep playing this really stupid game of win when they win and lose when they lose...

it just seems to me that, as things stand right now, the brewers are much more likely to go on a run...

i don't know...last week i was starting to get excited about our chances again, but now...my spirits are starting to fade...

Once the Cubs are good, it's time to worry about the Brewers.

(Read: April 2008, if we're lucky)

Until then, we have to worry about how much the Cubs suck.

Brewers only play 6 series against teams with a winning record the rest of the season, 5 of those are at home. I'd be worried about them now, they have already played the toughest part of their schedule.

Were you thinking injuries would get them? Because on paper they've got the best starting rotation in the division. All of those guys have track records that are pretty good compared to us. We were basically Zambrano and mediocrity heading into the season -- they had Sheets, Cappy, Suppan, Bush. Unless Sheets went down again, it was a pretty good bet they'd be good.

Hard to remember, but I think a few people picked the Crew to win it this year. It's not a huge suprise. Right now they're better than us, and when Lee goes out it won't be particularly close.

Anyway I was always worried about them.

Not that it matters because we have to play catchup with them, but we only have 8 more series with teams with a winning record, 7 of them at home.

Tossing out the Brewers, the Cubs have 6 or 7 remaining and that could easily be less when the Rockies fall below .500

Dont worry I added Sheets to my fantasy team today, so he will start sucking. I picked up JJ Hardy awhile back, and he hasnt done squat since. I have Barret and Andruw Jones also. Ya talk bout some guys not living up to their career avg's.

We need to worry about getting back above .500 before we even think about the Brewers. My call at the beginning of the season was 84 wins and quite frankly that's what I'd be happy with at this point. If that doesn't win the division, so be it, this wasn't our year anyway.

Worrying about the Brewers at this point is sort of like a person with deep personal flaws being ultra judgmental of others.

I don't understand this line of thinking. As fans we are allowed to have divided attention, I don't see the problem in "worrying" about how the Brewers will fare for the rest of the season even if we are struggling.

As was stated a few posts above, our first concern is getting to .500. Until we can do that, I don't see us as a team that can make the postseason. I'm not as worried about the Brewers as I am that the Cubs are still a bad, underperforming team.

Yup. Once the Cubs get to .500 then I'll worry about what they have to do to overtake the Brewers. Because even as bad as this division is, it's going to take at least a .500 record to win it.

I don't think that is the point. I think the point is, from the Cubs perspective, what are you doing worrying about any other team when your own house is in such a state of disrepair?

Because I think it's better to set a series of smaller goals leading up to the ultimate goal, rather than setting your sights on the ultimate goal to begin with. Smaller goals are more achievable and allow you to have some small victories as you move along. Setting your sights too high make setbacks seem all the more discouraging.

I guess to me it's like a number 5 seed in the NCAA tournament worrying that they're in the bracket with the best number 1 seed. Worry about the first few steps before you start worrying about what's down the line.

As fans, we can of course worry about whatever we want. It's just my opinion that it's energy misspent.

I predicted the Brewers would win the division before the season started actually. And everyone laughed at me.

I was actually hoping they somehow wouldn't put it together too. But they've been building for awhile now, added a nice piece in Suppan to the rotation, and appeared to be poised to take off in 2007 from the beginning.

They're probably the only semi-quality team in the division, especially with our personnel issues at the moment. With the NL being the way it is, once they get to the playoffs there's no telling what could happen (if they *do* get to the playoffs).

Can you make a package deal to trade Barrett for Estrada? Consider it doing your Cubs duty.

What's with the "woe is me" routine? Quite a few people picked the Brewers. I doubt everybody laughed at you if you did pick them.
