Hey everyone just wanted to let everybody know that "Sean has just gotten called-up to the Cubbies". Its been a very hectic afternoon since we just got off the phone with Sean. He is so excited and will meet the team in Mil, our family will be heading to Atlanta for this week-ends series.

I'm sure this was mentioned in the gamethread, but I hope everyone caught that Len mentioned this post on NSBB broke the news of Sean to the majors. He mentioned the message board, and mentioned Mr. Gallagher (although not by name), and they even showed the Gallagher family, I presume.

BTW, I thought Sean was very good today. He gave up the inherited run on a ball he left up and made a mistake on the Harris double, but the Renteria HR was a decent pitch, that we all saw barely make it over the wall. I love the way Gally attacked hitters. He was not afraid to let the Braves put the ball in play.

All in all, I hope the Gallagher family is proud of the kid's debut. I'm not sure if he has ever inherited runners on base in his life. And to encounter that in his ML debut and still go after hitters the way he did bodes well for his very bright future. He impressed by continuing to attack after the HR. In all, Gally threw 10 first pitch strikes to 14 hitters, and threw 32 of 54 pitches for strikes.

Congrats to the Gallagher family.

I'm pretty sure this was in the game thread, but did anyone else here the NSBB mention on the TV broadcast today? They were talking about how Sean's dad broke the news before anyone else did that Sean was getting called up in a post on this site in this thread. Pretty cool.

I thought Sean did well in his debut. I was impressed despite mixed results. I think he has a bright future. Congrats Gallaghers!

EDIT: D'oh, raw just beat me. Congrats are in order, anyway...

I echo Raw's post. While the results aren't as good as everyone would like, I thought he handled himself well and his stuff was good. I'm sure there were some butterflies as well.

I look forward to seeing his next outing, which likely will be in Marquis's next start.

I'm glad that Sean's dad and crew were able to see his debut while they were in Atlanta. Not sure if they'll be following the team once they leave Atlanta or not, but I'm glad they were able to see it.

I thought Sean did very well given the circumstances (and getting beaned to boot). He stuck to his game plan, threw strikes and worked quickly. I'm happy for him and happy for his family & friends who were able to see him make his debut.

Hello Everybody and want to say thank you for all the kind words its has been an unforgettable weekend with everything that has gone on. I haven't really had much time to spend with Sean as we have lots of family and friends in town to watch his MLB debut. It was very nerve wracking when Sean was brought in to make his appearance and it brought tears to my eyes to see my son pitching in his first MLB game. I thought he did great for his first time and if nothing else expect him to do much better next time out. I well post more tomm but we have just gotten back from celebrating with Sean and well talk to you soon. I also did hear that NSBB had a little mention tonight from the announcers

That curve to Renteria is prob. the diff between AA hitters and a good veteran ML hitter. It was a little up, most hitters would've rolled over it or got underneath it and weakly flied out to RF on weak swing.

I felt Gallagher did very well.

I thought Sean pitched well, especially considering he's just up from AA. He left the curve to Renteria hang just a bit, but other than that he was good and showed a lot of promise. Again, congrats to you and your son on what had to be such a memorable weekend. Look forward to seeing Sean pitch again.

Thank you for giving us this insight. It's great that you take time to post valuable information here. Sean did well last night. It must have been amazing for you and him and the rest of your family and friends. Enjoy the ride while it lasts!

Is Sean going to throw more sliders now that he's in the show? Or will he be sticking with the fastball/curve/change set of pitches?

Len basically said that before it was officially announced, his dad let it slip on the internet. Then he mentioned this site as the one his dad went to.

Hi again and yo answer a previous post, I think you will see Sean bring his slider back..... That has always been one of his better pitches and if he can throw that will make him a better pitcher. The curve he threw to Renteria was up a bit but if you saw most of his curves they were a lot tighter with more down. If he could throw that along with his slider would keep hitters more off balance........

I agree!

Continue to wish Sean our best. I'm hoping to see him mow down some batters when I watch the Cubs take on the Rangers in a little over a week.

Thanks! I'm hoping that if Sean is in the majors that the Cubs would be more okay with him putting that pitch back in the repertoire.

From today's Trib:

Bob Howry, Scott Eyre, Michael Wuertz and Sean Gallagher decided to take a tour inside the center-field scoreboard before Thursday's game. They even got a chance to stick their heads out of the innings windows for a group photo

"It was pretty cool," Eyre said. "Gallagher will tell you I was shaking. I'm afraid of heights and I had a death grip on the rails walking up there. It's neat. It's actually looks a lot bigger than it really is inside."

that ball is a flyout in most parks. 335 foot cheapy literally off the top of the fence, by Mr. CheapShot himself.

I've always wanted to get up in that scoreboard, but I haven't figured out a way to make it happen yet.

That's it -- I'm buying a Gallagher jersey!

Let's revisit the Gallagher callup. He was available for the whole Atlanta series, so he's been here for 11 games. He's made 3 outings. He mopped up Marquis in a blowout last Saturday, faced one batter(5 pitches) in a 13 inning game against Seattle, and mopped up for Hill in a blowout today. 3.2 IP and 96 pitches in 10 days, 6 ER, 5 H, 4/4 K/BB, 2 HR.

So he's getting used as a mop-up guy, the last person in the pen, and he's getting rocked. Couldn't we have used Cherry for this? Are these situations he's being used really so important that it's worth pulling him away from regular starting work at an appropriate level? Even then Cherry couldn't possibly have been worse in those outings.

Please send him back down. Bring up Cherry, Cotts, Pignatiello, or someone else without a ceiling to deal with this type of role.

I don't even think they brought him up because he was necessarily the best man for the job. They wanted to give him his "taste of the big leagues". If I'm right, he'll be back in the minors within 2 weeks, and for that reason alone, I hope I am right.

i'm not sure if anyone else has posted this, but i was in atlanta for the friday and saturday games. they showed an injury report for both teams on turner field's GIGANTIC video board. each player was listed with his accompanying injury. novoa's listed injury was "head". it was hilarious.

eyre might as well stay up there and put up the numbers during the game... he's not doing anything else

That would be the first time this year Eyre has actually put zeros up on the scoreboard.
