I don't remember that. And I don't know why anyone would have rather had Tex than Prior before the draft.

Oh don't get me started. I was about Draft Tex for months. V talked me into Prior.

At the time my logic was they were similarly great, but being a pitcher, Prior was much more likely to break down physically, and the Cubs were devoid of offensive talent.

Now that I think about it you did say that. I never thought of them as being similarly great. I thought Prior was a notch ahead of Tex. And I also believe that if you can get a great pitcher, you take that over a great hitter, because of sheer supply and demand. I figured Prior would need less minor league time (neither was in the minors for long).

EDIT: Actually expand the payroll and sign ARod for SS after he opts out.

Nice to dream. Best 1-5 ever assembled.

i know it sounds outlandish, but I think it's feasible.

Zambrano and Guzman to the Yanks for A-Rod.

- The Yanks are damn near out of it

- They want to get SOMETHING for him since he can and WILL opt out of his K this year.

Why not just trade Z for another player we need and then sign Arod after he opts out. I'd have to think with Lou here, we'd have a leg up on signing him (as long as the new owner will allow the payroll increase)

However, any way that A-Rod is acquired is fine by me. Just thinking about the upgrade from Izturis to A-Rod is nuts. I hope he can still play short though...

It seems like ARod would be Exhibit A for the type of player with a long-term contract that Hendry is allegedly not allowed to acquire, in light of the pending ownership change.

It certainly seems like we have the pieces to get Mark Teixeira. Guzman and Z seems like a good offer to me.

Do you think the Braves would want Zambrano? I wonder if we could somehow get Salty and Kelly Johnson.
I made basically the same suggestion in another thread (although I just mentioned Salty).

would love to get Francouer from them but maybe that has something to do with Seeing Jacque Jones try to throw out runners and miserably under throwing even the cut off men.

Z, Floyd and Barrett for ARod and Farnsworth.

Why do the Yankees need a catcher? Posada has been the best catcher in the league so far.

How old is he? He's got to be mid 30's, right?

I think Hendry ought to listen to offers for both Barrett and Zambrano, but not actively put their names out there. I would think other teams ought to be starting to ask about both players, which might lead to a deal later on.

Z and Jones for Tex

Z, Floyd and Barrett for ARod and Farnsworth.

Z for Santana and Wood

Barrett for Baldelli

Z for

The only deal that would seem to make sense would be the first one you mentioned.

Halos are not going to trade Santana and Wood for another pitcher. They need an impact bat.

I doubt the D-Rays would want to acquire Barrett when he is going to be an FA after this season.

Please stay away from Farnsworth. He has been horrible this season.

Why would any team give value for free-agents-to-be who are playing absolutely horrible baseball and are clearly discipline problems?

Yeah, he's 35. But I still don't see the Yankees wanting Barrett. Barrett can't even hit right now. Add that to his crappy defense and you have yourself a pretty bad baseball player, at the moment. They wouldn't do that deal.

Barrett for Baldelli, on the other hand, is very interesting. TB is loaded with OF's and they can part with one. Not to mention that Longoria is coming through the farm system fairly quickly, it'll make one of them even more expendable. And the OF that will be the most expendable will be Baldelli. Tampa also has a weakness offensively at catcher, so hoping that Barrett can turn it around wouldn't be a bad deal for them.

I don't think the Rangers would do Tex for Zambrano. The Rangers aren't making theplayoffs this year, so they'd have no interest in renting Z for half a season unless they could negotiate an extension before completing the deal.

Agreed that the Rangers wouldn't even consider Z for Teixeira. They're one of the worst teams in baseball so far this year, so why would they have interest in a pitcher who is a free agent at the end of the year?

I'd ask about the poor man's Tex in Arizona, Chad Tracy. Mark Reynolds has been ridiculously good since coming up when Tracy got hurt (.426/.484/.815 in 54 AB), and seems likely to keep the third base job. The Diamondbacks seem pretty committed to Jackson (who has been good lately anyway), Quentin, and Young, and Eric Byrnes has been their best righthanded hitter. Tracy may not have a spot, and he'd be a good #4/#5 LH hitter in RF for the next 3-4 years. But the DBacks are good enough to win this year, and wouldn't be hurt by adding another pitcher.

Of course, we'd need a pitcher to replace Z, because Hendry isn't going to give up on the season. So Zambrano + ?? (Marmol? Marshall? A prospect?) + Floyd (just because the DBacks might want a safety net for Quentin and/or Byrnes) for Tracy and Livan Hernandez. Since you might run into issues trading for Tracy while he's on the DL, "suspend" Zambrano for a start. The trade could take place in about a week or so when Tracy is supposed to be ready to come off the DL.

If they're not willing to trade Hernandez, then get Tracy and a prospect, then find a starter somewhere else.

Mark Teixiera.

Gammons talked to the Rangers GM the other nite.

The Rangers want 4 young players for him- 2 position and 2 pitchers.

Gammons said no one will give them even 3, so a trade is very unlikely.

No way the Rangers take Z with the contract issues and everything else going on.

How about Murton, Moore, Holliman, and Guzman. That's four young players...
