Mr. Miles for next Cubs GM?

My favorite line

Sure, Eyre is signed through next year, but if you’re paying him to be ineffective, you might as well pay him to go away and save yourself the irritation.

And we hereby nominate general manager Jim Hendry for the Nobel Prize in science.

Hendry has pulled off an amazing feat of human cloning as he has come up with one corner outfielder on top of another.

Bruce is my hero

dude, it is good - but maybe you need to set your sights a bit higher for the "hero" tag...

And maybe you need to turn on your hyperbole detector.

The amazing thing about Bruce is that he is pointing out obvious moves that should be made. Not to take anything away from Bruce, but we've been suggesting most of those moves for awhile.

I wonder how Hendry is going to take those comments.

Oh, I'm sure they're having another high-level meeting to see about implementing those changes and maybe hiring me and giving me a hefty bonus and...

Well, you get it.

It might well be obvious, but not to those in charge, apparently.

Thanks for the dicussion.

I'll bet, in his mind, there is no validity to any of a sportswriters ideas (or message board poster).

It's just that Hendry rarely does what obviously needs to be done.

poor hendry...i really hope he feels horrible because of this mess he has made with such a browbeaten organization

thanks for the goodtimes hendry

If you were overweight and pitched left handed they'd hire you. It's not too late. Pack on the pounds and get that arm in shape.

And that's quite unfortunate. Because, he could learn a lot hanging out here. At least he earned enough money from the Cubs these past 5 years to retire, since that's probably what he'll have to do once he's gone from this organization. Who, in their right minds, would give him another chance?

He was given the GM job with an ever increasing payroll, one of the top minor league organizations in baseball and much roster flexibility (limited guaranteed long term contracts. The sky was the limit.

Basically, he was given what any GM would dream of having at their disposal. How is that working out right now?

Not so good.

I am just glad that there is a Cub writer in town that states what really needs to be done. Its a lot better than start Floyd everyday and have Marquis DH at AL games.

My one criticism that I think Murton should just start everyday and see if he develops power with us. We all know what Floyd is going to do. I fear that Murton will be a very solid .850 OPS guys for someone else while we sign Darin Erstad next season.

I'm sure the baseball world will find a job for him somewhere, Ed Lynch style.

Since when did the Cubs care about whether a pitcher's arm is actually in shape before signing him? :D

Oh they care, more than any other team. If a pitcher's arm is in shape, then that's the guy they don't sign, under any circumstances.

Yes it is unfortunate that he can't see the things that are wrong. But what can you expect from a guy that thought he pulled off the deal of the century when he traded Maddux for Izturis? He was strutting around like a fat cat with a canary feather sticking of its mouth because he was such a smart guy that outfoxed the Dodgers.
