On Sunday Guzman will face the Nationals. Lou deffinatly picked a good team to try Gooz out on, but I'm feeling a mediocre start. I haven't watched or heard Gooz's starts in the minors so I don't know if it looked more like he was just getting some work in, or if he was actually struggling with some control?

If it's the control I doubt he makes it out of the 4th inning. If he was working on stuff I think he could go 5-6 giving up 3 or less. What's your thoughts on this?

I don't know what to make of this.

I'm predicting 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 4 K

Oh, and he's gonna hit a double, too.

As soon as I posted that, Claudio Vargas doubled. :?

I thought that it wasn't for certain that Gooz was starting after his poor last outing on top of the other poor outings.

BTW A New Era, they're almost back at .500 soyou can start watching again.

He's a Cub so I expect complete suckage. I hope to be surprised.

Nothing against Angel, but I've come to expect this from all our pitchers....and hitters for that matter.

You must be pleasantly surprised by most of the players on this team then.

It's better to expect nothing and get something than expect something and get nothing at all.

Des Moines Register[/url]"]If anything, Tuesday's dismal pitching performance by Angel Guzman may end up being a blessing.

"We talked after the game, and we talked again (Wednesday) morning," Iowa manager Buddy Bailey said. "What I heard from him was that he knows what he did wrong, and the simple fact that he knows shows me that he won't do it again."

Guzman, mentioned before Tuesday as a potential Chicago Cubs starting pitcher on Sunday, allowed seven runs on four hits in three innings against Nashville.

His ERA in three Iowa starts is 12.19. His record is 0-2.

"He got out of being Angel Guzman," Bailey said. "He wanted to work on some other pitches and got away from being himself, which is a power-type pitcher with a power sinker.

"He got to throwing too many breaking balls in counts he couldn't afford to, and it snowballed from there.

"The good thing is that he realizes it. The next time we'll see Angel Guzman pitch, we'll see him on the attack. That's what's going to make him successful in the big leagues."

I heard he was working on a few things in his first start (especially slider location) and that partially hurt him in that game.

I'm hoping he can hit 5 innings today and not have the command lapses he had at Iowa.

His first of many major league wins. I'll be at it, too.

He still doesn't have a win, even after a little starting last year?

Nope-he didn't get in a win in 10 starts last year, 5 relief appearances last year, or 4 relief appearances this year.

I'm predicting a Steve Nebraska line of 9 ip, 0 hits, 0 walks, 27 strikeouts, 81 pitches. The last pitch will knock Michael Barrett to the backstop.
