Real solid outings from Marquis and Dempster tonight. Izzy also had a real clutch hit in the 9th. With Zambrano and Hill going in the final two games of the series, I am feeling pretty confident in a Cubs sweep!

Lets all hope that Izzy's partial gaffe on that liner doesn't make up for his "clutch" hit in Lou's eyes.

It doesn't help that Theriot was rough around the edges defensively and offensively today. I hope Lou doesn't make an emotional decision and bench him.

Excellent win, lets keep it going! Would love to sweep the Cardinals.

I doubt Lou would end the experiment this early, at least not on a permanent basis. I can't say who will play tomorrow for sure, but I don't think the team has seen the last of Theriot at short, and my guess is that Theriot will be given a couple more days at SS at least.

Kind of a funny sample size thing-if Theriot and Izturis do what they did today for the next 2 days (Theriot 0-4, Izturis 1-1) then they will have virtually identical offensive numbers for the season (2 points OBP and 2 points SLG would be all that separated them.) While I don't expect that to happen, it is still amazing to watch the numbers bounce around this much, and that scenario isn't altogether out of the realm of possibility.

That win was a complete reversal from the trend of finding ways to lose. This could give the Cubbies a nice little jumpstart at getting back to .500 and beyond.

Amen to that!

What the hell was LaRussa so mad about after the game? I just saw him screaming at the reporter.

Long story short, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch published a mock on the Tinkers to Evers to Chance poem titled "No Tinkers, No Evers, No Chance". TLR was really angry about it for a few reasons (bad timing considering the Cards' record, bulletin board material, etc) and decided to take it out on the P-D's beat writer.

Oh.

My.

God.

TLR's blowup needs to put on Youtube NOW. That was awesome!

Wow. What was that all about? Thanks for defending the Cubs but...why?

It looked like the were going to throw down at the end there.

This was on the front page of the St. Louis P-D's sports section and at the heart of LaRussa getting PO'd.

I really, really think that Taguchi was safe at second on that bases-loaded groundout to Theriot. But hey, bad calls happen so I'm not going to pin the loss on that. I'm basing this on about the 10 times I replayed it with my DVR; but hey, maybe I'm just biased and somehow convinced myself he was.

Anyway, even though St. Louis lost, I thought this was an awesome, awesome game. I love Cubs-Cards baseball!

I echo the thoughts of the Cubs chances of a sweep looking good.

I replayed it on my DVR too. Looked DAMN safe to me. BUT, for heaven's sake it's about time we get one of those calls. I'm not blaming all of our bad luck on it ofcourse, but I recall there have been atleast 2 games where we were royally screwed by the umpires. That game where the rookie ump Koye or whatever that had an evident vandetta against us, was one of them.

I reviewed it a few times myself, and after a few tries at it finally managed to pause it at the correct moment. He was out, but only by the tiniest sliver of margins-his foot touched the edge of the bag a fraction of a second after the ball went into the glove. It was a close enough play that I couldn't have been upset at the umpire if it had gone the other way, but from the look I got when it was paused and in the slow motion replays that I did I think the umpire got it right.

I thought he looked safe in regular speed. Couldnt make up my mind when I went back and watched on DVR.

Is it me or does the new Busch Stadium just have crappy camera angles. Do they make WGN set up their own cameras or do they borrow the feed from whoever does the Cardinals games.

It was borderline which is why I was shocked the call went to the Cubs. I honestly couldn't tell from the camera angles if he was safe or out.

Anyone else feel Taguchi made no attempt to get out of the way of the pitch that grazed his uniform? Maybe it's just me.

Reyes is now 0-3 at games I attend.

I would encourage you to attend more games, but I don't think Reyes needs any help losing. :P

I didn't even think he was hit in the first place.
