And a year that is a radical departure from the norm is what we call a fluke.

Agreee to disagree?

OK. Then what is a fluke in your opinion?

Wade Miller topping 90

How is an 83-win team winning the World Series not a fluke? The Mets were clearly the best team in the NL last year.

No they weren't. Their pitching was bad. Worse than St. Louis for sure.

Find me a single statistic that supports this, and maybe you'll have an argument.

Mets had a better ERA, better ERA+, fewer hits given up, more strikeouts, more shutouts, more CGs, fewer HRs allowed, heck, more wins and saves, if you follow that crowd.

Why? Wade Miller has topped 90 once in the past? Doesn't that mean that it's an attainable goal now, no matter how unlikely?

I think we need to pull a Memento on Matt Murton and make him forget everything he ever learned from Dusty Baker. This is getting out of hand.

You mean the Matt Murton that had a great second half under Baker/Clines and now sucks after working with Perry/Piniella?

Any guy that thinks "What Would Carlos Do?" in any situation should immediately be castrated. No questions asked.

Looked terrible in that AB. But, we've seen worse

Jaque Jones Sunday in the 6th inning, when we had men at the corners with none down, was infinitely worse. Specifically his swing on the 0-2 pitch.

Wow Murton is pressing big time.

He did this some last year also. Especially in early June. Then Bynum got hurt and Murton became the everyday LFer again and was fine the rest of the year.

No, you go find it. I dont care enough. Mets suck.

We're saying that because a fluke bad team won the WS, doesn't mean that that flukiness is a model for success. Sometimes a fluke is just a fluke.

The 2006 Cardinals were not a fluke.

No they weren't they had a terrible pitching staff and it led to their downfall.

You people are nuts. They had the 3rd best ERA in the league last year. Their downfall was all the pitching injuries they suffered right at the end of the year.

You do know that the best team doesn't always win the World Series, right?

I don't subscribe to that school of thought. If you win, you're the best. No whining.

who's whining? But a seven game series is a small sample size, and sometimes - just by matter of chance - an inferior game is going to win more games in a seven game spell.

If you don't believe me, then consider that the Cubs won 11 of 19 games against the Cardinals last year.
