I voted for Lil' Wayne because "Bling Bling" is my favorite rap song ever.

Made me think of this

Warning: it has a lot of bad words.

That's some good stuff.

I hate Jay-Z as well. He tries to act like he's the most gangster rapper ever, when in actuality he looks like a broke-ass Mr. Cooper. He couldn't intimidate a timid child into forking over his Adam Kennedy rookie card.

Best rapper in the game? Personally I don't like rap/hip-hop that much, but Weerd Science kicks ass.

I know a bad rapper when I hear one but generally the competent ones sound pretty similar to me in terms of "quality". I hear people say one rap is good and another one is great. 9 times out of 10 it's just a better jam and not necessarily a better rap.

i think all those guys were guest on Kanye West's last album

Everybody is a guest on everybody's record now. It's like those bloated 1970's disaster and car-chase movies with the huge "all-star" cast. The idea was to cram as many familiar names into the credits as possible to prolong the life of a played-out formula.

there are like 2 songs on "Late Registration" that don't have guest rappers:

Adam Levine

Lupe Fiasco

Jamie Foxx

Paul Wall & GLC

Common

Game

Brandy

Jay-Z

Nas

Really Doe

Consequence

Cam'ron

Guest rapping sucks. Hip hop listeners can't maintain their interest for a whole album anymore without the added bling of the guests. I knew hip hop was headed for a decline in popularity when getting a big list of stars in a record's credits became more important than the music. It's pretty bad when even the people who make the records have accepted that the music alone is not enough to make the audience give a crap anymore.

I agree.

If anyone can find one rap/hip-hop album released any time in the past decade that doesn't have at least one guest appearance by another rapper/artist then I'll give you a cyber-cookie

I'll take guest rappers over guest R&B stars on every track (Ja Rule, I'm looking in your direction)

Late Registration is pretty darn good actually, despite never knowing who you're listening to.

And as far as a Hip Hop record in the last decade with no guests, I give you:

Beastie Boys truly are terrible.

ehh i like em. Not so much there actual rapping, but their style, its fun music.

Here's my two cents. Nas is clearly the most talented rapper out there, but Kanye is right there with him, his word play is pretty dam impressive. And his producing his top notch, so his music overall might be the best out there currently. If it werent for him being a outspoken fool, I would deem him the best thing to hit rap in a long time.

I also think Common is severely underrated as far as talent goes, and Jay-Z is as overrated as they come. How many Biggie rhymes can you steal before p diddy has to come to your house and slap you.

And a rapper who is on the rise is Talib Kweli (also Mos Def). I really hope they hit it big.

I Run DMC still together or alive or not arrested? How about Tone Loc?

Uhm, i'm not quite sure to make of that.

But Run DMC's dj, Jam Master Jay, was murdered a few years ago. Reverend Run did come out with a new album in 05 (i think), though. DMC hasn't done anything post- run dmc that i know of, though.

I don't understand the degree of love for Nas. At all. I mean, dude is nice, but people talk about him like there's something spectacular in his style, and I never hear it when I hear Nas. Also, the dude secretes pseudointelligence.

As for Wayne, I liked him best during the Cash Money days when I couldn't escape them on the radio. He's grown into a formidable artist, but I have a hard time letting go his tendency to follow a strong line with some stupid crap. Nice, but clearly NOT the best rapper alive. If I were to name off dudes from the top of my head that would school him, I'd run out of fingers and toes.

TI, for me, is one of those "not my type but I gotta respect his work" type of dudes. He's actually pretty well rounded. Can't really say much since I'm not particularly a fan and rarely listen to radio, but most of what I've heard has been solid and appreciable.

How in the hell did Lupe get on this list? Not saying he's bad (far from it), but he's nowhere near the others in terms of sales or prolificness. He has one notable album and a couple of hit songs. What is the criteria for this "best in the game" critique, anyway? Most skillful? Best body of work? Most successful? I can't think of any in which Lupe deserves mention as a potential top five at all.

I guess out of the above listed, I have to go Jay-Z by default, even if dude's last album came straight from his rectum onto cd platters. Again, it's hard to get all excited about rappers when I know/am rappers better than them.
