Murton looks a lot less patient this year. Too bad.

When you only have so many at bats to impress, you get aggresive.

That's not a fair characterization. He's been doing it since ST and even in his first couple of starts... much too anxious

I don't take ST too much into account. Everybody wants to get their hacks in Arizona.

I don't know the stats, but it doesn't seem like pinch hitting is Murton's cupotea.

yeah, he's 5 for 23 now as a PH. his approach just wasn't good in that last AB. could've been ahead 2-0 if he would have not swung at those high pitches.

His game is about patience and selectivity. But the conventional wisdom of baseball says pinch hitters have to go up hacking. That's not his game, and probably hurts him more than some others.

Seriously. If Marquis pitches like he did today all year, I bet a lot of us would be more than happy with that.

Before we get carried away with the Marquis love, he had a 1.6 WHIP and 5.40 ERA today. If he pitches like that the rest of the year I'll be pissed.

He was horrible in the spring and it has continued through the early going. It's not like he was unlucky, he was just bad; swinging at bad pitches and not getting walks. I call it as I see it... Matt isn't playing his game--1 walk and few hits.

I just want him to look like he has a clue about the strike zone. It's one thing to hit a line drive right at a defender it's another thing to pop out or constantly ground out weakly...

BTW, it's not just Murton, it applies to many of the hitters.

You can't take ST into account. Didn't we hit something like .315 in spring? We have to be hitting at least 100 points lower than that right now.

I'm not talking about results I'm talking about his approach at the plate (which is why I mentioned line drive outs--the results don't matter as much in ST). He was swinging poorly then and has clearly gotten into some bad habits.

For whomever mentioned that PH'ing isn't his cup of tea, remember that he hasn't shown his normal patience in his starts.

He's barely had any starts to show it, let alone back to back starts.

Give me a week straight of Murton starting and looking like that, and I'll be concerned.

I predicted a 5.52 ERA. 8-[

I agree in general but it shouldn't take a week. He was the most disciplined hitter in the lineup. I've seen enough, thus far, to know that his approach is different.

He can't walk as many as he did today, but I'll take 5 innings of four-hit ball every time. Just do a better job of spreading the 4 hits around, and never let Izturis play ever again.

Since the majority of his "value" is in his ability to rack up 200 innings, I'd think 6 inning would be the minimum. 5 every time will kill the bullpen.

Guess I can delete this Tivo recording tonight. What a downer coming off a good weekend series in Milwaukee. How do we play this flat against a 1-5 team throwing out mediocre pitchers against us? I had wanted Hous to leave 2-7 and in an early hole.
