Anyone going to the Cell to watch Sammy take on the White Sox?

Ugh, no thanks. I can replicate the atmosphere of Comiskular by watching the game at Chucky Cheese's. I'd rather watch on TV.

I'm not a big Sammy fan or anything, but I hope he's still in the lineup in June when I go see the Cubs play the Rangers.

I'd definitely like to see him enjoy enough success to see plenty of playing time this season. His BA is only a little behind Soriano's, so it's almost time to pay him $17mil, right?

I just had a big argument/discussion with a co-worker. We were discussing Mcgwire's HOF chances vs Sammy's HOF chances. We weren't arguing stats, as we both agreed that stats would put both of them in the HOF. I argued that Sammy had a better chance for a number of reasons:

1) There has never been even the accusation that anyone has ever seen Sammy do any kind of steroid. Meanwhile, Canseco said in his book that he'd seen Mcgwire use them, as well as reports that a known steroid dealer said he'd seen Mcgwire use them as well.

2) Sammy is much easier for the media and baseball writers (who vote for the HOF) to get along with than the likes of Mcgwire and Bonds.

3) Sammy outright denied using steroids in the congressional hearings, while Mcgwire danced around his answers.

4) With Sammy coming back, he has a chance to repair some of his public perception by laying low, doing his job on a much less scrutinized team than either the Cubs or the Orioles. Also he delays any HOF vote. Time can only be his friend here.

Sammy is washed up but it does bring back good memories. I find it funny though that you guys act like he took us to the promise land or something. We never won a world series with him.

Words fail me.

If winning the championship is your indication of great Cubs, then Mordecai Brown is easily the greatest player in team history.

Winning a Series is usually a sketchy argument to rate one player over another, but in the Cubs' case it's particularly bad.

[nitpicking]Actually he's led them to the same number of division titles (zero). He has led them to more postseason appearances, though, since they won the Wild Card in 1998.[/nitpicking]

Cubs won the NL Central in 2003.

Let me give you a quick run-down of how the last 5 minutes went for Roast:

-Sox walk Tex. I say "c'mon sammy, make them pay for that"

-Sammy goes down 0-2. I'm like "oh crap"

-Sammy hits it, does the hop.

-I go friggin BAZERK.
