It was unclear whether Wood aggravated the triceps strain that sidelined him for close to two weeks this month, but a team source confirmed that Wood was hurt again after he pitched one inning of relief Sunday and that he's scheduled to be examined by the team doctor this morning.

sounds alot different than what rotoworld is saying...

Kerry Wood gave up three runs in an inning of relief Sunday against the Angels.

He allowed three hits, including Kendry Morales' two-run homer. Wood will pitch twice more this week. He's likely to be on the Opening Day roster, but that could change if he experiences any soreness at all.

so is he hurt or not?

I saw that and my first thought was he's taking one for the team... I don't think he's hurt but they convinced him to play along so they can put him on the DL to start the season. He needs more innings and Guzman can go north with the team. I could be crazy but it sounds like Remlinger's supposed lawn chair incident (or bullpen chair) that conveniently landed him on the DL a few years back (just in time to provide some roster flexibility).

When dealing with Kerry Wood, if its unclear if hes hurt, he probably is.

Hard to disagree with this.

I don't know, weren't they about to trade him right before that injury?

I know that Wood came up our system and was drafted by us. He is also the longest tenured Cub. With all that said, it's time to cut our loses with him and finally move on without him. His injury prone body has no place with us anymore.

Where's the logic in this? He may or may not be a little banged up and that might lead him to spend the first week or two on the DL, so let's just get rid of him?

Agree. No reason to get rid of him.

how is dumping him now and still paying him his (modest) salary cutting our losses?

Couldn't disagree more. What'd be the point?

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Kerry Wood (triceps) suffered a setback while pitching Sunday and is expected to begin the season on the disabled list.

A team source told the newspaper that Wood is scheduled to be examined further by doctors Monday, but didn't reveal the extent of the injury. If Wood begins the year on the DL, the earliest he could pitch is April 10. Mar. 26 - 9:34 am et

To get rid of an undependable (or is it non?) and injury-proned pitcher who is trying to change positions on the staff. If he weren't a Cub but some FA off the street, would you want to sign him?

He seems like a great guy who loves being a Cub, but he's just taking up space on the 25 and 40-man rosters. If that ST article is true, I think it's time...

He is already signed. It would make absolutely zero sense to release him now.

There's nobody at this point that is really needed to put on the 40 man roster though. If Wood is put on the DL, he won't need to be on the 25 man, so no worries there. Plus, any time Wood is healthy and pitching this season is a plus for the team, even if it's for just a month or two. Maybe these injuries start to signal that the team shouldn't re-sign him after the year, but he's not really taking up space right now that anybody else really needs to fill, so the team may as well take advantage of the times that he will be healthy this season.

probably not. but he's already signed, so your question is pointless.

The title of this thread should be a sticky and we just update the date of injury and the amount of time out.

It is not for me to use those words I have said so many times to discribe him. I'll leave it at Itold you so ](*,)

wow, you predicted that wood would be hurt? you're obviously very smart.

The idea of getting rid of Wood just to get rid of him is beyond stupid.

Agreed. There's a long season ahead. If he's legitimately injured, he should be healthy enough to contribute at some point. I still think this situation is fishy; Hendry and Piniella spoke with him a couple of days ago. I think they convinced him that needs more innings (they would also like to save him from the usually lower temps of early April). Wood going on the DL is the perfect answer to the short term bullpen issue. He also refused to speak to the media... Guzman is going to make the 25 man roster.

How many innings pitched has Kerry Wood had the past couple of years? Not many. This guy is always injured. I'd rather have a reliable arm in the pen over the man who always gets hurt.
