Let's not forget that there's at least a 50/50 shot at an opening coming up at another major basketball school (Arkansas). Coach-go-round, ho!

UK can spend basketball money with the best of them. I would like to include Thad Motta as someone that could be a good fit as well.

I still think it'll be Calipari.

Thad Matta ain't leaving he has an NBA team lined up for him. He has like 16 5 stars already committed. Plus OSU can spend some moeny too.

Just ask Greg Oden

Glad to see Rick Barnes name not being mentioned.

interesting quote from reggie rose on the possibility that UK hires calipari.....

It’s too early to speculate about which schools would be in the running for Rose if Calipari left Memphis, but Reggie Rose did let something slip. ‘

‘We may have to get back on the highway and head down to Champaign,’’ Rose said.

What a load of B.S. Reggie is just enjoying the opportunity to toy with Illini fans again.

WARNING: DISCUSSION NOT RELATED TO TUBBY SMITH OR MINNESOTA AHEAD

I think it's awesome how myself, Cubbies75, and da Bears have become this omnipresent horde of Mizzou-talkin' posters in the minds of some people.

PS - Mizzou may still be in the running for Travis Releford, yayy

What was Tubby's incoming class at UK looking like, and are they going to follow him to Minnesota?

Bill Self will not miss on this kid.

I had heard too that he was signed, sealed, delivered KU, but in the last couple days it's come out that Self is offering someone else too, or that something that Self has done recruiting-wise may steer Releford away from Lawrence. I'm not a scout subscriber so I don't know the exact details.

EDIT: Looks like Self is after Willie Warren, and for whatever reason that means Releford isn't as likely.

That is Self's MO. He has offered the other kid now and Releford will see this and probably be forced to decide sooner. I imagine Releford commits soon.

I think we'll get both. It's the 08 class, right? Wright, Rush, Chalmers, Robinson, and maybe Collins will be gone by then. There will be a ton of playing time for both if they want to come.

I don't think Thad Matta will leave for UK this year, however, I really don't think OSU will be his last job. He'll jump to the NBA or a program like UK at some point. I've always been very worried about Matta to UK. Don't want to see that happening.

OK, seriously, you really want Calipari? Really?

I've always liked Calipari, despite his reputation, he doesn't run shady programs (or hasn't been caught). I believe Camby was working w/an agent at UMass, but other than that, his tenures to my knowledge have been clean.

He's been able to rebuild programs that have been dead (Memphis since Hardaway and UMass).

While I think there are better choices (Donovan), I think Calipari would do very well at UK.

He has been mentioned as a poss. candidate, just not as much as Donovan, Calipari, Few, Izzo, and Pitino.

donovan is interesting, i cant imagine an in-conference move like that. he's likely to lose alot of starters this year. what kind of recruits does he have coming in?

Oh, no doubt he'd do very well. He's slimy though. The Final Four he took UMass to is no longer recognized, though, as you said (at least as far as I know) he hasn't been implicated in Camby hiring an agent.

I want UK to hire Crean. Mainly because I don't like UK and am always weary of how good they might be.

They have 4 good ones coming in next Fall. Tubby was an intraconference coach as well (UGA), although that was more obvious of a promotion rather than the defending Nat'l champ head coach.

Why would Izzo of Donovan go to UK really??. Im having a hard believing any one of those would leave. UNLESS Kentucky throws Nick Saban money at those guys. Its going to take that much for Izzo to leave. Why would he leave East Lansing for another job where 1 guy with a National Championship and average of 26 wins a season just left to coach Minnesota? Izzo isnt anywhere near or would he ever be on the hot seat. MSU has been cheap in the past with Nick Saban so who knows, but this is the basketball program and not football. Football is 2nd to the MSU basketball program.

Same goes with Donovan. Florida has the money to ante up because they are freaking loaded with $. UK needs to blow them out of the water when it comes to pay. IF Florida wants Donovan, UK cannot outspend them, unless its Nick Saban ridiculous.

Forget Thad Matta. Nobody spends more $ on their athletics than OSU and its not even close. Even if UK gives him NS $ i bet OSU is crazy enough to match it.

Calipari needs to come to Michigan. If he can recruit in Memphis he can recruit in AA. UM has the $ to pay him handsomely. They were serious about Pitino and almost damn near got him but for his wife telling him to move back to kentucky.

Heard anything on Bruce Pearl (Please no, please no )? There was great fear here for a while that he would take off because UK can potentially spend more on him than we can (primarily because we're already paying Pat Summitt and Phil Fulmer good money).

I've also heard from local media members that it's highly unlikely he'll want to leave Tennessee.

All the talk I hear is that the list starts with a longshot- Donovan, and then follows with 4-5 names who are maybes:

Barnes

Crean (please...please NO)

Matta

Calipari (unlikley to be pursued)

What's his name from Notre Dame (always forget it).

Mark Few is an outside possibility if the others all say no.

The fallback options are Travis Ford from UMass and John Pelphrey at USA. Both are former Pitino players, but neither has proven they can handle a job of this magnitude.

As for Tubby at Minnesota- Tubby has always had troubles recruiting. he had a great class once in the past 5 years (now juniors, of whom only two remain) and has struck out on nearly every high-level recruiting target since. UK fans will udnerstand if teams don't make the final 4 or don't win championships, but they won't be so forgiving if the team consistantly isn't even a serious contender for long stretches. The past two eyars ahve been pretty bad by UK standards, and next year looks like it could be the worst non-probation team UK has had in 3-4 decades, and will struggle to reach the NCAA tournament, which is unacceptible.

As an X's and O's coach, he's outstanding, and should raise the level of play for the Gophers. But if he couldn't land top-notch talent consistantly at UK, I fail to see how he'll do it at Minnesota. I wish him the best, though. He's a totally classy guy and a great "person" to have as a coach. He just didn't handle the microscope of UK well. It's like Notre Dame football- "good" isn't good enough when you're spending millions every year to try to make it great. he was making well over $2 million a year at UK, and he wasn't delivering $2 million worth of coaching success.

That's him. Thanks. I'll forget his name again by lunch, though.

Stan Heath got canned today. Nolan Richardson said something stupid about it.

Also, Kerry Wood is on the DL.

I was wondering how long it was going to take. Not a clue who they'll get to replace him, but I'm not disappointed.
