A lot of my fellow south Alabama fans are concerned that our coach and Kentucky famed alum, John Pelphrey, will leave this year. He's being interviewed for the USF job, but he has said he will take the UK job at the drop of a dime. To add along with that, hordes of UK fans want John Pelphrey as their head coach. Perhaps not immediately now, but at leasti n about 3-4 years. Maybe they'll take a risk and jump right into it.

If that's the case, it'll suck to see him leave South Alabama, he's worshipped around here.

come on, at least mine was kind of related to the topic.

Out of my hands if someone responds to the 5 font portion that's unrelated rather than the normal font that's directly related.

Well it is more interesting than Tubby going to Minnesota as it is going to be a year until he gets to start recruiting.

unbelievable, this can only mean more bad news for illinois.

I was waiting for an Illini fan to make this about them. Just didn't think it would be you

you'll have to forgive me, but i get shell-shock every time a fairly big name coach comes into the Big Ten. it generally means bad things for illini recruiting--just the latest being sampson-gordon.

as for illini fans making everything about the illini, that's totally untrue. there are wayyyy more people chomping at the bit to talk about missouri athletics, for instance. and it's a chicago board, there's bound to be more than a few illini fans lurking about--penn state fans might just have to deal with it.

Yeah he is just pissed I wasn't the one who said it. I love how some things can be beat to death like Dusty bashing, but don't talk about illinois. On a board for a professional team located in illinois. We could talk about penn state. Apparently they are going to try and field a team again next year. I think it is cute really.

notice how I didn't bring up Penn State (who I only sorta root for cuz they're in town) in a thread about Tubby Smith and Minnesota.

that's because penn state has a rather non-existant basketball program.

stating that tubby's move would hurt penn state recruiting could be considered a wee-bit frivolous.

I in no way endorse penn state's basketball program as anything more than occasionally competitive crap. Most year's they couldn't beat the women's team. So please stop trying to use PSU against me, as it won't work

where am i using penn state against you? i'm not actually trying to insult the program at all, you're misunderstanding.

here's the point in a nutshell: while the illini should have a major concern for the tubby move (hence, my comment), penn state shouldn't at all (hence, your lack of comment, which you, in turn, commented on).

that's all.

WARNING: DISCUSSION NOT RELATED TO TUBBY SMITH OR MINNESOTA AHEAD

I think it's awesome how myself, Cubbies75, and da Bears have become this omnipresent horde of Mizzou-talkin' posters in the minds of some people.

PS - Mizzou may still be in the running for Travis Releford, yayy

What was Tubby's incoming class at UK looking like, and are they going to follow him to Minnesota?

Bill Self will not miss on this kid.

I had heard too that he was signed, sealed, delivered KU, but in the last couple days it's come out that Self is offering someone else too, or that something that Self has done recruiting-wise may steer Releford away from Lawrence. I'm not a scout subscriber so I don't know the exact details.

EDIT: Looks like Self is after Willie Warren, and for whatever reason that means Releford isn't as likely.

That is Self's MO. He has offered the other kid now and Releford will see this and probably be forced to decide sooner. I imagine Releford commits soon.

I think this whole issue could be settled if we all agreed to talk only about Tennessee. :D

We're going to beat OSU tonight by the way. 8-)

Oh well, he's a very good coach who had one good recruiting class at UK. That won't cut it. Too much turmoil, 10 loss seasons, and too few Final Fours.

His time had come and passed.

I would prefer Donovan or Calipari.

Why shouldn't UK try to get Pitino, again? So what if he left before. Other than Donovan, none of the other names mentioned thus far have won a national championship.

I wouldn't mind Pitino again, I believe there's enough bitter UK fans out there still upset w/him for going to UL.

With that said, I'd prefer Donovan and Calipari.

As you can tell, I like snake oil salesmen (as long as they play by the rules).

in his tenure at UK (97-07), Kentucky has only won fewer games than Duke, Kansas and UConn

How long has it been since a Final Four? He won with a Rick Pitino team, which should've been the 3-peat (I still despise Simon for that one as well as Anderson's knee).

Calipari will have a few good options. I doubt Memphis could come close to matching what he could get at one of the Big 10 schools or Kentucky.

Down here though, nobody asks questions about anything.

my point was that 99% of the other teams in the country would kill for the success of the guy you just ran out of town. I think UK fans are spoiled by their school's success.

As they should be. Just because UK hasn't matched their past success doesn't mean they should lower their standards and expectations.

I heard the same crap when Lavin was let go, but I can't think of too many UCLA alums, students or fans who were the least bit disappointed to see Lavin go.

Seems to me the same could be said about Happy Valley fans who were trying to push out Paterno.

Agreed, but both would do very well. Of course, Donovan has UK ties.

There's prob. 3 other schools that are in that position (UCLA, Duke, and UNC).

Wonder if Travis Ford is a possibility.
