It was a ridiculous call made necessary by a ridiculous rule.

 

But was it the right call?

 

According to the rules, yes. But that doesn't make it any easier to digest. I think the rules should be amended to give more discretion to the officials.

 

I would agree-make it like the face mask penalty, where there are 5 yard and 15 yard versions, and then it would work better IMO.

Truffle was pointing out that Devin Hester celebrated the same way (sans flip) against the Rams on one of his kick returns and that some Bears fans who ripped into Reggie Bush and call him classless for what he did, praise Devin Hester (not all Bears fans do this but some do).

 

Watch this video. On both returns Hester does a Deion strut the last few yards to the endzone and then dances after he scores the touchdown. On the second return he points backwards while he's still running. Now, besides Bush's flip, please tell me what the difference is between Hester's celebration and Bush's.

Considering it took them 10-15 seconds after the play to make the call, it made perfect sense that a player would be making that signal. Guys do the same thing when a player gets in the end zone. Their is an enormous difference between mocking an opponent mid-play, and signaling a safety or TD after it has occurred.
