BEARS (-2.5) over Saints

No, but seriously ... EVERYONE loves the Saints in this game. I can't remember a bigger bandwagon pick in all the years I've been writing this column. Even if you check any gambling site that gives you the percentage of money being wagered on each team, the Saints are getting 68-75 percent of the action. Everyone has them pencilled in for Miami. That gives me the willies. And since the other two "makes me nervous" components of this game (the Rex Grossman Roller Coaster versus a warm weather dome team playing in 30-degree weather) cancel each other out, well ...

The Pick: Chicago 27, New Orleans 20

Just saw that. The dude on Cold Pizza just said the Bears are the most underrated 14-3 team hes ever seen. I agree. Meanwhile, Skip Bayless picked the Saints. No surprise there. Its gonna be such a gratifying feeling if the Bears can win this game.

I think that 16-1 Steelers team was pretty disrespected as well. Even though they had only lost one game all season, nobody gave them much of a chance in the AFC championship (that I remember) even though they had beaten the Patriots earlier that season.

I don't want to see a bounce-back effect of people suddenly picking the Bears as the game draws near.

I know it's not scientific, but look at the bad games this year:

Arizona: Bears were riding high, everyone picking them for the SB.

Miami: coming off the 49er slaughter, people saying the Arizona game was just a fluke for Rex and he's back on track.

Pats: Bears just got done winning 2 road games in a row in NY---those NY sportscasters who all picked us to meet our waterloo had to grudgingly give respect. Actually this game wasn't really all that bad, I thought the Bears traded punch-for-punch with Belichek pretty good.

Vikes: Alright I'll give you this one. We won the game but Grossman should have bounced back better from the Patriots game.

Then look at the "good" games:

First 5 games: Bears are just going to win the division by default, they're not really a "good" team.

Giants: Bears can't beat the Giants at home, NY is the new NFC darling and will go to the Super Bowl.

Jets: No way the Bears beat 2 NY teams in succession. Nobody can beat Mangenius.

St. Louis: Rex sucks, he should be benched.

Seattle: Rex won't get it done in the playoffs. Bears are one-and-done for sure.

I don't think I'm imagining this. I think the Bears play better with the whole world against them---or at least the perception of it.

And when they get to the Super Bowl, they'll have the NFC stigma to deal with.

What network has the Super Bowl this year?

Pretty sure it's Fox. I wish it was NBC.

Really? What do you base that on?

I base it on the fact Reggie Bush was more of a rookie then than he is now. As was Colston. Brees has to be a lot more comfortable late in the season than he was at the beginning of the season. This is his first year with a new organization.

I'm still picking the Bears to win. But, this Saints team does scare me a lot.

I'm wrong...it's CBS.

I'm really, really sick of hearing Joe Buck's voice now. I used to tolerate him, but this season has really soured me on the guy. I'd rather have almost anyone but him do the play-by-play for the SB.

I'm glad it's not NBC. NBC here is about 20 yrs. behind the times on everything. They don't have an HD channel here.

Ironic since ABC is the one without an HD channel back at home for me.

On ESPN's current poll question, only 72% of Illinois voters even want to see the Bears in the Superbowl. For SHAME

Well we have traitor Packer fans in this state, and downstate I assume there are some Rams fans as well.

Probably some Colts fans down there too. And there are the communists, satanists and general riff-raff that don't even like football at all.

I just want them to play the game. I'm sick of talking about it really. Everything that can be said has been said. I can't wait until Sunday.

If the Bears win you're going to go crazy waiting 2 weeks instead of one.

Umm...

Ummm.....

I'm pretty sure those would be some really really great 2 weeks.

So who are CBS's lead broadcast team.

Gumble and Simms

So it's a lose lose situation then. Oh well, I'll be shooting darts and playing fooseball with the volume down then.

It's actually Nantz and Simms, but that's not really better.

I guess it's not Gumble after all. Either way the CBS crew is far better than Joe Buck.
